I just bought a 2002 blaster and just wondering if theres anything I should change on this I was told to get rid of the oil injection but not sure what all I need to do to elminate it, there is a problem with the rear brake not releasing I had to remove the caliper but could not figure out how to get the cable off the pedal without taking the whole thing off any help or advice is greatly appreciated

yep get rid of that oil injection and premix 32:1. look on ebay u can find a whole kit to block it off bout 30 bucks i think or u can make ur own..and get rid of the T.O.R.S search in do it yourself threads and there is a sticky on how to do it very easy takes about 5 minutes and theres a tors kit on ebay as well. my caliper wouldnt release either but turned out my cable was bad... awk makes a complete bolt on hydro for cheap would be better than the crappy caliper u have now

Welcome to the site bro............

Just like Rid3r said romove the oil injection, it is know to fail, which will inturn blow your topend. Also as he mentioned removing the T.O.R.S is a great idea. It is a throttle over ride system that is supposed to cut the engine if it gets stuck wide open. But the system is junk and just causes problems.

As for the stock rear brake it is not that great. The best way to do it is also like Rid3r said convert it to hydro. Like stated member AWK08 make bolt on kits and brackets.
I have also heard that you can get a short cable for the stock brakes and it makes them work pretty good.

yeah vitos makes the short brake cable you can get one on e-bay for around 30.00 but i would just get awks setup that he sells

You can get a oil block off kit off of ebay for like 30 bucks or I think you can do it yourself. They are known for failing and causing your motor to seize. And if you have the money just convert to hydro brakes its well worth it in the long run

Make sure your carb is jeted rite. Here's a freebe.Take you front wheel off and put them back on with the valve stem facing to the inside. This will make the front track wider. You can remove the air box lid if you don;t run in alot of water. You will need to rejet for it.

before you try flipping youre wheels you might want to make sure that the valve stem doesnt hit the calipers and end up breaking off youre valve stems

So is the tors system why it bogs to an idle when I get wide open this has been annoying especially when going uphill

big possibility mine ran a helluva lot better without it. check your airbox lid does it have that snorkel piece on it that chockes it down to like an inch might sound stupid but i took it off mine and it helped couldnt run with the lid off didnt have any jets to play with..try that and get back to me lemme know if it helps yours any

Is the oil pump removed easily while engine is still mounted or do i need to remove it anyone have any good pics of the process they could email me please pm me if you do

To remove the oil pump you have to take of the clutch cover, to get the white plastic gear off. The engine doesnt have to come out.

Also you have to plug the holes on the cluch cover, put a nipple over where the oil line went to the carb.

tors and oil injection are just more things to go wrong, i'd check compression right off the bat with a new machine, i'd deffinately clean the carb and go through the jetting, gease the front end and oil chain, change the clutch oil, ect ect ect, basic maintenance is huge on a used quad espcially if the last guy didn't do it

It looks like it has been taken care of but I am going to change all fluids, lube etc. have a short brake cable ordered and caliper soaking till it gets here would like to mod with a hydro but funds are low when i need to do other things first, the previous owner did put a FMF turbine core 2 and a FMF Gold series fatty are these decent upgrades its been almost 20 years since i have had a bike at all so not sure what brands are what anymore

For an exhaust upgrade FMF isnt the best option. There are so many better aftermarket pipes for the Blaster now. There is an exhaust review in the engine section. You should check it out. But FMF is better then the sh!tty restricted stock pipe.
