I guess this is as good a place to start as any, probably the right way in the "door" also. I just acquired a 1998 Blaster that has been half way modded and abused by some previous owner. Its got things cut and hangin from puttin a Gixxer 1000 front caliper on the rear (thats the story I'm told) with the bleeder screw on the bottom, must be a new way to bleed them that I'm not aware of!! The right side foot guard is only attached by the footrest, that will soon be fixed. Also has a twist throttle that I am soon gonna replace with the thumb style just cause thats what I like on a 4 wheeler. Front brakes just don't work, I'm diggin into that today. I also need tires so any recommendatons would be greatly appreciated. I know I shouldn't have but I had to see what all the hype was on 2 strokes. All I can say is the brakes are #1 freakin priority now!!! I have ridden bigger 4 strokes but something this light that takes off like ya hit it with a cattle prod just ain't sane. I love it. I have a second Blaster all in parts that I haven't even looked all the parts over yet but it will probably be a winter project.

welcome man! well blaster brakes are actually interchangeable with Fred Flintstones 'foot-mobile' so you will have endless trouble with them unless you upgrade to hydros etc. otherwise, sounds like a project for you!

Welcome again and by the way, we need pics! house rules!

idk if I would call it endless trouble, after I replaced my front shoes, lubed everything, and properly adjusted the cables my front mechanicals were awesome.

people just write them off too quickly, imo

yes, they are maintainable but can you honestly say they are hassle free? one river crossing and they toast. then again, if you dont ride through water, they will last. but hey its an ATV!

ok, well then that suits you, my riding is rivers every km! like in my sig, they lock up and ive even had shoe linings seperating from the shoe and jamming behind the other, locking up the wheel, and you cant get the hub loose when that happens!

I'll get some pics, they won't be impressive though. How thick are the stock shoes supposed to be? How hard is it to put hydraulics on the front? I am a mechanic so takin stuff apart isn't an issue but how hard is it to find the parts?

No not too bad of shape. I still got quite a few questions and issues I think. I'll get them in the right section. Mostly I just love riding quads.

Hydro fronts are simple thanks to norman420's conversion spindles he makes. Get a set of those and a full banshee setup (calipers, lines, master cylinder) will bolt up or you can use a combination of different parts. Most Yamaha sport quads front brake parts are interchangeable. Also fyi you can use Polaris predator brake lines if you want cheap braided stainless lines.
