Hello everyone I'm new here I usually post at everything2stroke but i'm not getting much help or it could be they don't know what else i can do. I just got done doing the top end on my 94 blaster and I got the following mods done as shown in my signature. i got all new gaskets and torqued everything and used a fresh tank of 94 oct mixed 32:1. In my stock carb I started with a #30 pilot and #300 main and the air/fuel backed out 2 1/2 turns and the clip in middle position. It started after 4 kicks I ran it a bit but it bogged out in the top end bad and it wouldn't idle. Next day i took it out and got it idleing a bit took it out and it went crazy on me it revved so high i put it and neutral and was gonna run from it thought it was gonna blow. I pulled the choke out and it stopped. I let it sit a bit and it did the same sh*t. So next it just wouldn't start so i checked over some things cleaned the carb and changed the jets i went smaller on the pilot and that didn't work. so i kept the #30 pilot and went to a 290 main b/c i noticed the plug would just get wet and I have to pull it out and clean it each time. so the 290 it would start and die so then i moved the clip down more to lean it out and it would start and die I also adjusted the a/f and it would start and die. So finally i went with a 240 main b/c i dont' have a 280 or 270 so i put the clip all the way up to make it richer and it would start and die. So needless to say I don't know where to go from here. I also forgot to mention during this i tried starting with the tors plugged in and without to see if that was the problem. I am going to get a compression tester tonight the only thing left that I could think would be the base gasket. Any ideas? thanks and sorry so long

welcome .. did u try and put the stock pilot back in .. and maybe come down on your main jet a little .. u running no air box lid ??.

One thing I did notice you say was "I moved the clip down to lean it out." Moving the clip down richens it up b/c by moving the clip down, you're actually setting the needle up higher, allowing more gas in..

Oh yeah, always start with a brand new plug.

the air filter is directly clamped onto the carb and the smallest jet I have is the 240 and smallest pilot is a 25 when I tried those it wouldn't even start once. As for the clips i reversed it in my directions. I gonna pick up the compression tester tomorrow.

leak down tester

you should pick up the jet sizes you said you dont have.

Also if you think it might be your base gasket leaking, an easy way to tell is to do a leak down test. The leak down tester is not cheap, but you can make one pretty cheap by using

1. a pvc pipe cap (to fit into the intake side of your reed cage boot) tap a hole in it for a male tube adapter, teflon tape the male adapter before running it in the cap, tighten down the clamp of the reed cage boot around the cap.
2. a rubber plug (to fit into the exhost port on the front of the engine) drill a hole in this place a bolt through the hole with big washers on either side and a nut. place in the exhost and tighten it down to expand the plug.
3. Get a blood pressure tester from a drug store. Use the pump on one end of the line and use the tubing and connect it to the male tube adapter on the intake side with a pvc T coupler in the middle so you can run a small Psi gage in the line up to 60psi is fine.

list of exact parts
bood presure tester
1/8 x 1/4 barbed fittings 3
1/8 pipe T
1 1-1/4 test plug
1 low presure gage
1 1 inch pvc pipe cap
