Hey everyone new to this site, just bought my second Blaster used to have a 94 Blaster years ago. I just got a 98 Blaster that was partially disassembled a couple days ago, guy said it ran then sat for like 6months and when he started it it didnt like idle right, but he didnt seem that bright either.....anyways the carb and all the electronics were off of it upon arrival, i cleaned the carb out and put everything back together tried kickin it over without the gas tank on with spraying a lil starting fluid in it just to here it fire up first, wasnt even trying to fire but seems to have great compression, so then i pull the plug out to check for spark, first hand kick over it shot a blue spark, then every hand kick after that first one nothing, tried putting the plug back in and still nothing, what could be wrong or of went wrong here?

Thanks Matt

hey bud post this in general support and u will get more replys

but check your switches and yours TORS unit

i unplugged all the tors stuff and spark is back, so before kicking it over i pushed the throttle open and sprayed some starting fluid in it and tryed kickin it over and still didnt start up, pulled the plug back out and still has spark

three thing you need,

compression, spark, and fuel

you said its got good compression, spark, so your missing the fuel part.
did you clean your carb good, is the air screw in or out too much, rejet,?

looked like it had weak spark so i was playin around and opened up the gap a lil more and put the plug back in went to kick it over and it tried a lil something so i put the tank back on and it fired up but didnt want to idle, then died and wouldnt start back up, im thinking maybe a new plug, re clean the carb again, and probably the petcock? also do the reeds go bad? or could that have a problem i took them out and wiped them off and stuff

k its now to where i can get it started (pain in the butt) but i have to keep giving it gas, it will no idle, what could be the problem? and yes i have all the tors stuff unplugged

did you clean out your carb jets?,

if it wont idle, the pilot jet is the problem

before i even tried starting the bike i completely cleaned it, but maybe i should go back thru it and double check everything, when i got the bike the carb was off of it and had been sittin a while the guy said the last time he started it, it seemed like it didnt wanna idle

fresh gas?

Have you played with the big idle screw under the seat?

yes the reeds could be bad if their cracked or warped, probally be a good idea to grab a new set, and i would try a compression check, because it may seem to have good compression, but if its below 100 PSI its probally not going to draw in enough gas to let it idle, so in turn, when you give it gas, its picking up compression and drawing fuel! i seen where you said you where turning it over by hand, it should be pretty hard to roll by hand while holding the plug to check for spark! And compression should be 100 - 130 PSI, a lil more never hurts either! but anything below 100 psi i would just rebuild the top end! may not be the problem but just what i come up with reading ur post, good luck and welcome to the forum! Hope it helps

yea like darrell said, if ur compression is under 100 it aint gonna start. i bought an 01 blaster and it did the same thing it just cut off when i was riding and then it would never start up again. the spark looked good but mine had a carb problem, it had no air screw. just check your compression and make sure everything is there on ur carb. also, make sure the air screw is adjusted good (turn it all the way in and then out 1 1/2 turns) good luck bro, let me know what it was when u get it fixed

unfortunately...i did a compression test and it came to almost 80lbs of pressure after kicking it over like 3 or 4 times, so i guess i found my problem and now must figure out what bore its at and order a top end kit

well after pulling the top end off i notice a slight bit of like wear/scoring/scratched or whatever you wanna call it to a small section where the ring stop things are located, i think something happened there and maybe broke a small chunk of ring off and messed up the piston a little bit, but the piston wall/jug looks fine feels ok, slight bit of ridge at top but i had the piston measured at autozone they said it was 260 thousandths so my dad told me to times that by 25.4 to get the MM size of it and it came out to 6604 and after looking up it says that the stock piston is 66mm so im guessing that makes this a stock bore, do you think i should just hone it and get a new piston/ring kit of stock bore and it should be fine?

yeah, you should just go ahead and have it bored .20 over but order your top end kit for it first, then give whoever does the boring the piston and rings with cylinder so its done right! It all cost under $100 usually, just depends on who does it! good luck man!
