New 2 stroke piston kit... what's the black wavy band for???

I've got a 201cc Yamaha Blaster and bought a new Namura piston kit to rebuild the top end. It came with two rings as usual, but also a thin, black and wavy "band". I've searched the forums for hints but can't even find a name for the band.

I've already had it running without it, cause I truly had no idea where it went. Seems to run good with lots of power.

I initially thought it could be an oil ring or something like that... but it's not big enough to go around the piston (or even close) so I'm stumped. Any ideas? I don't wanna leave something out if it's supposed to go somewhere.

Namura has no customer service hotline. Bought it from an Ebay vender... wouldn't you know, he hasn't taken the time to respond.

I:I LOL, that's good stuff!

Here's a pic. It may very well be a mistake that I even got it in the first place. But I thought, as soon as I toss it, I'd find out that it was this super critical piece of the Namura piston system that inevitably leads to a rip in the time-space continuum.

That sort of thing happens all the time to me.

Looks like scrap.

Thats unlike any oil ring ive ever seen.

Your namura 2 stroke top end kit (or any 2stroke kit) should include 2 circlips,2 piston rings,1 wrist pin,1 wrist pin bearing,1 piston,and depending on the kit a gasket set.

If theres any more than that toss it in the scrap heap.

Not sure im too fond of that generic little idea.It seems like its a shim for the ring.

If it were me I would contact Namura directly including pic, and find out for sure. At the very least it looks like it's not the right piece as it wouldn't cover much more than 50% of the ring. Worked on lot's of 2s have never seen like that before.

That vid is suss to me, I have never yet seen 2 stroke oil come in a spray can.

New pistons and rings should be bathed in two stroke oil prior to inserting them into a cylinder.

That bit of wiggly stuff was not long enough to go completly around the piston.

I see no use for your extra wiggly bit, other than to weiner the piston ring off to one side of the piston causing irregular wear on the ring.
