So, I am looking into building a new project, I had a couple things in mind and have been looking around but am hoping maybe some suggestions will lead me in the right direction.

So what I want is along the lines of an enduro bike. Aimed at off-road but still able to make street legal (not hard in Idaho). I do not have a lot of experience with two wheels so this is new territory.

I want it to be simple ... along the lines of a blaster, but two-wheeled ... so here is kinda what I want.

Hopefully Yamaha (older models are preferred)
Single cylinder
Air cooled
Simple electronics
Easily available parts
lightweight
Does not need to be super fast, say ... minimum 55-60 mph in stock form
Would prefer two-stroke, but don't know if this is a possibility.

So just would like some suggestions of bikes along these lines so I can start searching them down to build my info base before going out and just buying something.

Too bad RD and RZ 350's are getting hard-to-find. That's not really the type of project you're thinking of (according to your description), but it would be really cool to see one brought back to life. Plus you'd always be riding around on something cool that not many people in this day and age are seen on. Seems like many of these older bikes are too far gone to be worth fixing, or they have been reduced to trailer/showroom floor queens that hardly see the pavement. I know Chutzell has (or at least had) a couple RD's he was working on.

I'm with slicker on this one, if you want an enduro bike... get an older YZ! Any model. That 490 would be awesome...

Well, I was thinking something along the lines of an XT, or DT, and have looked at a few but not anything yet that fit the bill ... don't know much about the older YZ's though have ridden a few newer ones and was thinking more along the lines of bringing something back from the graveyard or stock like I did with the blaster. I've been looking over night for a 490 and can't find a single one for sale in the area so don't kniow how easy it will be to find a good foundation one to build on.
