hi everyone, i'm new to the site and blasters too, my main quad is a 86 moto4 dx, i just picked up a blaster today for cheap and think i found a few things wrong with it already just want to get some advice from the pros

first thing i noticed is the oil injection system is gone and some of the lines are plugged with screws, i think the fitting on the carb isn't even blocked off ?

the air box is also completely disconnected and a cone filter was clamped directly on the carb witch has a 230 main jet in it, so it was run lean on fuel i suppose

my main question would be what size jet should be in there and any other advice is also appreciated, thanks

... also noticed it appears there was a hole in the case near the kick start that was repaired

Well first off Welcome ! , Second 230 Is stock main , You can buy a Real Oil block off kit for under $40 , More advice is Buy or make a Leak Down Tester , Contact Member Slickerthanyou to purchase one , Also Search for jetting Info and I would also search on Plug chops , a plug chop helps you figure out Proper jetting needed , Hope I helped some !

thanks, read the threand on plug chops and will be picking up a leakdown tester soon,
i did check compression already and it looks like it may need rings like the previous owner said, compression is 98psi but will still start and run after a few kicks

Good good , Ouch 98 is pretty bad , Normally under 120 and its time for a Rebuild , Only because its hard to start and will eventually Get worse of course , Best info on here is Reading and Paying attention !

Stock pipe, 32:1 pre mix calls for at least a #240 main jet, due to oil taking the place of fuel passing through the jets.

So many have done the oil injection block off without changing the main jet to compensate for oil taking the place of fuel and leaning out the mix.

Welcome to the forum.
The hoses shown in the picture you are holding are for the oil injection system. Thae larger of the two is the supply line the smaller is the feed for the carb. The hose in the same picture coming out of the crankcase that is blocked of is a breather for the motor. That line needs to be open and ran up over the motor along the upper frame and exit in the front under the hood. The screw you show on the carb is not a block off for the injection system. That nipple is on the opposite side of the carb (kicker side) near the rear of the bike past the carb vent tube. Be sure that one is blocked off, or you are sucking air. I highly recommend a leak down test on the bike.

ah ok, the oil nipple on the carb that you pointed out isnt blocked off on mine, i'll be fixing that today and the unblocking crankcase vent also

where is the best place to order a 240 jet at ?

If you are going to swap jets, you need to plug chop to confirm.

If the hoses have been plugged up and the oil pump is still connected, you need to remove it.

If the pump siezes due to no oil, nasty things could happen.

yea i definitely need to check out that oil pump asap, i'm not running the bike until i get all the repairs done and make sure everything is done right, really after checking it out theres no riding it until the rings are done possibly even bore and replace piston as well
