I purchase my blaster a while ago and it never ran good (hardly at all) At first i thought is was just the carb so i rebuilt it- nothing then i changed the cdi, reeds, airfilter, main jet, eliminated tors added idle screw. Then i decided to just rebuild it. As i was taking the cylinder apart i found out the previous owner had the piston in backwards!!! I thought i finally found the problem so i ended up getting a cylinder and new piston installed it properly (arrow forward), put it together, and it turn over second kick but died quickly. after several minutes of kicking it started again and would only run with the choke on. but once it was warmed up abit it boggs and dies choke on or off.

Any ideas? What is the stock setting for the fuel air?(i have it at 2 turns out and it will die any more than that)

For your question about the air/fuel setting, it should be 1.5 turns out. Although i have mine set at about 2 turns out, it seems to be fine there. As for your engine not running well i would say you have a air leak somewhere. Search the forum there's a thread that helps diagnose a lot of common problems..

sounds like an air leak. when it started the 2nd kick, did you hear a pop then a bog? cause that happened to me one time. it was an air leak

I dont remember a pop sound. Im going to start by getting the air/fuel screw where it needs to be when i get home. As far as the air leak i went throught this thing several time for leaks back before i realized the piston was in wrong and didnt find any, BUT i didnt look after i got it back together.

Thanks for all the help. I know have something to start when i home.

BTW i also installed the moose idle screw kit as instructed and it doesnt seam to affect the idle what so ever. hoping it because im feeding it too much fuel, but has anyone used theseand do they work well? im not used to an idle screw w/o a spring

i had that problem and it was my tors. it was disconnected from the carb, but the tors box was still plugged into my throttle.

i took everything that had to do with the TORS off completely and buried it somewhere in my backyard. i knew i could eventually be a problem when i got the bike and that was the first thing i did

What year Blaster? And pardon my saying so but it sounds like you've bought someone else's problem. But don't worry, a little bit of time and effort and we'll get ya figured out.

It sounds extremely lean. As mentioned it prob has an airleak. Have you done an actual leakdown test, with a leakdown tester? This should be high on your list. When I bought my 94 it was missing the right crank seal spacer. Talk about an airleak! My point is, anything could be screwed up on this. A reversed piston is a great example....

Did you check the compression?

Bear in mind that the idle mixture screw is an AIR SCREW. Turning it out leans it, in richens it.

You are going to want to check the flywheel key at some point. If it is missing or sheared, there goes your timing. Even a little off makes a difference. Easy enough to do but you will prob need to buy a flywheel puller.
