Hi all
I've been here for a few years and learned a lot from you guys but still need some advice
I got my baster for almost 3 years now with no problems at all
Goes good but i want a bit more
I do most of my riding (about 80% ) in the winter , with lot of water crossing mudding big rutted hills , stuff like that
My blaster is stock except for a fmf pipe
Just got some 22in rear's so it neads more power
I want some more lower end and trottle response
i know you guys prefer top end

I was thinking of :
-getting a 28mm carb (will a 30 be to big ? losing low end?)
-doing the 4º timing advance
-might do some port and polish

- would a 240 kit do a big difference in lower end power ?
any other ideas?

THanks for your advice

Nuno

(sorry for my english)

the carb and port/polish will help greatly
i believe the +4 timing advance you will lose some bottom end

how bout just a gearing change to compensate for your larger tires ???

it really depends on your budget...
reeds are directly related to your throttle response so a good set of replacement reeds pedals such as boysen or go all out with a complete cage such as vf3's you would feel a difference. As for the low end power a head mod would be in order from kenoconnorracing or flotek or wildcard. if you get the head mod you wont need to advance the timming. i cant say that i know of anyone in portugal that would do this work so sending it to the states may be your only option i dunno. if you have another 150 you could go with a port job as well and it can be tailored to your needs as far as where and how you want the power delivery. the 28-30mm carb would suit you well and you will loose nothing on the bottom end. as for the bigbore kit, if your interested in one i would go ahead and get the la sleeve kit when they are back in stock (should be soon) and it will be an animal with plenty of power for ya but then you consider the cost and shipping its quite pricey.. not to mention the 35mm carb to go along with it. i would recomend staying with the stock jug.. jmo

If i was in the states i would usto go with a p&p and head mod
but around here there are few builders and not much done here to blasters
the shipping cost back and forth is high for this kind of thing.

I like DIYing and have done some motor work before (rebuit a 4 stroke, cars etc)
so i might give it a try with ken's videos as a guide.

since the timing advance is reversable (and easy) i might do that and see

As for gearing i don't want to change it just need more grunt.

So im thinking of :
-new reed petals in stock cage(are the a/m cages realy worth it? ??)
-30mm carb - (about the same $$ as a 28mm so might as well go for the 30)
-some home p&p

I want to open it up because it has already a lot of hours on this piston
bought it like it is and allready put more than 2500km in it ! so i want to
replace it before it grenades !

thanks

nuno

Ken's vidieos are a good start !! If language isn't a problem also check out Gorden Jennings and H. Gram Bell, McDizzy. See if you can get "suggested" port timing for your pipe. How is shipping/etc. to and from England? Another member here from England is using a builder there, just a suggestion.

As to other mods, duel stage reeds, timing advance (free) ported stock reed cage (free), wiesco piston, good air filter, play with gearing (maybe).

Keep us informed I:II:II:I

Language is'nt prob but ken seems to know alot about blaster engiens so i'will start there
whats that about "ported stock reed cage "

Dang, I knew you were going to ask that . Basically you remove minor imperfections and open it up some. Search around on here and let us (me) know if you can't find anything and we will help.I:I I should be able to find good examples of what to do, and a great one of what not to do :o The reading I suggested will help understanding why you do what you do when porting. And McDizzy has a good write-up with pictures for a Blaster cylinder.

My plan is to go faster !! :) lol

Anyway my questons are :
- 28 or 30 mm (are OKO any good ?)
- boysen petals in stock reed cage or is a complete cage like VF3s worth it?

Thanks
Nuno

OKO's are a hit and miss but If you find a good deal grab it ause I find that it's a good middle ground for what your looking for I would hold off on the VF3's unless you can afford $150 american for them but boyesen pro series reeds are 1/3 the cost and work almost the same for $48

Ok thanks that is what i was thinking about the reeds

So
I'll go for :
-OKO 30
-boyesen pro series reeds (will fit stock cage right?)
next queston:
-air filter : uni? K&N or no toil ? (can't just remove the cover as i use it alot in the winter/mud/water crossing)
