Just bought a used Yamaha blaster 2002. What oil should I use to mix and what gas type? Also having trouble starting it. Any tips that I should know would help.

Get a good quality premix oil designed for air cooled motorcycle engines. NOT weedeaters or leaf blowers. I use maxima superM with good results
Mix it at a ratio of 32:1. Pour and measure out 4oz of oil per 1 gallon of gas. Shake the can, swirl it, make sure its mixed up good.
As far as the hard starting, there can be a few things that cause that. Start with the easy stuff, fresh gas, clean air filter, new b8es plug, a well cleaned carb( don't just soak it) disassemble and clean and inspect it. A bad set of reeds would cause a hard time starting as well.

Like Dirty said, plus low compression can cause hard starting. Compression should be at 120, anything below 100 require top end work.
It is a great idea to leak test any used 2 stroke before you even start it, just to confirm that the PO has not jetted to hide an air leak.
