Ok guys, i am an idiot to these and need help. ive got an 05 special edition i got from a friend. it had maybe 1 hr riding time on it when it was sold to a boy the family knew, kid never paid so i went and stole it back. it was spotless and ran like a top when it left. When i got it to my house it wouldnt start. played around a little to see what ut may be, heres what im finding. compression is good, i put a new spark plug in it. when i kicked it it wouldnt start to save my life. i pulled breather box cover off and box id full of gas from kicking it. I pulled carb off and cleaned it, it looks fine SEEMS to be operating fine, put carb back on. Call me stupid for this next one but, Left spark plug out of hole and plugged in boot, i wanted to see spark to make sure it is getting good spark. when i kicked it, it literally was shooting gas out of the spark plug hole, alot of gas, soaked bottom of blaster and was dripping on ground. kicked it again so my friend could see what i was talking about and the whole damn thing caught on fire. yeah im stupid i know. hose was only ab 10 ft away had me and it out in a matter of seconds..why is it throwing that much fuel? i believe if i can figure that out it will run

Frm sitting a long time with gas in it. Your float is sticking do to being dirty or worn out . You will have to clean the carb real good. Check the float needle and seat very good for varnish buildup.

By the way, kicking it with the plug out and all that gas spraying, your lucky you didn't have a fire ball do to the spark of the plug wire. Make sure the kill switch is OFF when you do that and place a rag over the sparkplug hole.

Also your gonna need to pull the head pipe and put the bike on its nose, kick it a bunch of times to attempt to get the fuel out completely. Then yes, carb needs to be gone over and float spec'd/checked, etc.

So by saving some headache would i just be better off to just buy a new carb. and put it on rather than messing with the one on it? Also i just tried to kick it a few times with gas off trying to flush out whats in it, and it seems to have locked up?! Kick start wont move at all.

Sorry fellas been too busy at work lately, im gonna pull the plug tomorroe afternoon and see if itll free up, and whats all required to pull crankcase to get that gas out?

maybe it was all running together.. If i pull the headpipe and put it on its nose, would that get it all out of the crankcase? What did i not pay attention to? sorry for being a newb to this

Make sure the fuel petcock is in off posistion when not using it. If the float sticks or needle valve is worn gas will continue to flow from tank, and it has to go somewhere. It has filled the crankcase with fuel. Then the fuel was drawn into cylinder and you have hydro-locked it. Remove the spark plug BEFORE you try kicking it over. I would disconnect all four wires coming from the motor (plugs should be on left side between foot peg and seat, cover male plugs with tape) to avoid any and all possibility of sparks of any kind.
Remove carb and exhaust pipe. Kick the motor over slowly several times to start with to remove majority of fuel. After that , start kicking more vigorously to clear the rest of the fuel. Leave the engine open while you finish the rest of the procedures. Cover plug hole with a rag over the fins. Lightly stuff paper towel into intake and exhaust , This is to keep dirt out.
Now to the carb. Completely dissassemble it. Remove jets, float, float needle, float needle seat. Inspect needle, inside of needle seat, and O-ring on outside of needle seat. If there is a noticable groove on the needle or if seat O-ring has cracks you will need a rebuild kit. There is a sticky "Almost free carb repair" (or something like that) read that (it's good). Also put the float in a cup of gas to make sure it floats. Be sure you can see through both jet, main and pilot. Either spray or soak the carb body and be sure air blows through ALL openings in the carb. Reassemble carb , setting float to proper height. Be sure to install main jet washer and slosh baffle. Make sure overflow and drain are clear also.
Blow compressed air through exhaut and silencer to remove any fuel. Shop vac on blow or leaf blower will work.
Now kick motor over some more to be sure engine is cleared out. Now put it all back together. While you have it apart if you still have TORS, pull the covers and clean and lube that. I:I
