Hey guys.

I have a 2002 yamaha blaster 200. It starts sometimes but wont stay running. Just bought it off of craigslist and i replaced the spark plug recently too. Please help!!!!

Have you checked for a constant flow of fuel from the overflow when the float drain is cracked open?

Have you checked the carby for dirt?

Is the air filter clean?

Have you leak tested it?

Have you checked the reeds?

Have you tried to adjust the idle, is the air screw 1 1/2 turns out.

Have you checked the exhaust for a critters nest?

I ordered an air filter recently and it should be coming soon. I'm gonna clean rhe carb and replace the air filter along wi th that other stuff you said . Thanks!

I just replaced the spark plug in it with a brand new one, and it started up on 2 or 3 kick and it runs great until you try to put it in neutral or stop for too long, then it shuts of and we cant get it started again. When we previously replaced the spark plug it did the same thing. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but our old spark plug that we just put in was all black at the spark end and it smelled like gasoline.

Sounds like possibly a rich condition. Clean the carb, check jet sizes, and be sure to set the float height properly. Inspect the reeds while the carbs off. I saw your post in the carb cleaning thread. I have found the easiest way to remove the carb is to loosen both clamps and remove the airbox side first. Try to keep the carb as straight as possible so as not to tweak the intake on the reeds and cause an airleak. After that remove the other hoses/lines and pull the carb out, then disconnect the cap. Know also that a 2-stroke sould not sit and idle without occasionally blipping the throttle. Also a leak test is in order since this is a new to you quad. Sometimes a PO will compensate for an airleak by throwing a bigger jet in

We saw that the oil was to high and it was leaking and was all over the spark plug causing no spark. We took it from the oil can in the back under the seat.

Did you check the end of the breather tube from the gearbox, it can also dribble oil if overheated or a seal is leaky..

It often drips oil on the plug.

the oil in tank near fenders is 2 stroke oil that gets injected into the gas, threw the carb line attached kickstarter side of carb.
the oil cap by the kickstarter is the transmission oil,and it hold 650ml about 3/4 of 1 quart. the breather hose runs up under gas tank to near front fenders , if you over fill the trans oil it might spew out near the exhaust header.
answer this.......
what is the spark plug that is in it full descripion?
2 stroke oil can build up on plug if it idles too long,to rich of a mix meaning 2 stroke oil n gas,big main jet ect....
are you mixing oil in the gas,and using the oil injection at the same time??

no im keeping the oil and gas separate, but the mixture of gas and oil accumalates on the spark plug.

NGK BR8ES 5422 is the spark plug
