Two Stroke Terminology
Powerband-The extra pull in power found when the motor hits a certain RPMExpansion Chamber-Also known as the head pipe, this is the peice of the exhaust that is largest and connects to the motor
Silencer-The end of the pipe that is near the rear end of the quad
TDC-(Total Dead Center)When the piston is at the top of the cylinder, closest to the spark plug
Head-The very top of the motor where the spark plug goes
Jug-The main peice of the top end right on top of the tansmission cases
Compression Gauge-A device that plugs into the spark plug hole and checks the air pressure held in the cylinder to see what shape the top end is in. For the motor to be ran it should be above 120 PSI
Leakdown Test-When a plug is placed in the intake and exhaust and air is pumped into the engine to check for air leaks
Crankcase-The main part of the motor underneath the head and jug. The transmission and crank are all located here
Piston-The main peice of the top end kit that moves up and down in revolutions to turn the crank
Rings-The rings hold the compression in the engine and keep the piston from moving against the cylinder wall
Crank-The crank rotates to move gears which turn the transmission, creating foward movement
Connecting Rod-The peice of metal that connects the piston to the crank
Head Gasket-The metal seal that is between the head and jug that keeps the engine compressed
Reeds-Thin peices of varied materials that aid the the induction of fuel and air into the engine to get combusted
Carb-The main fuel body that allows fuel into the reeds and from there into the engine
Jets-The peices inside the carb that shoot the fuel
Sight Glass-The small clear plastic peice in the crankcase that is used to see how much oil is being put into the transmission
Intake Ports-The intake ports are the last peices of dividing material that the fuel and air pass to enter the engine
Exhaust Ports-The exhaust ports remove the burnt remains of the fuel from the cylinder
Gearing-Sprocket sizes are commonly referred to as gearing. A smaller sprocket in front and a larger in rear will increase torque and the opposite will increase top speed
Stator-The electrical system found under the flywheel that generates electricity
Transmission Oil-The oil put in through the hole in the clutch side transmission case
Mixing Oil-The oil added to the gas to provide lubrication to the engine
I hope this helps someone along the lines here. I took as many of the misnderstood words that I see pop up here and put them all in here with some definitions. If anyone has some more suggestions, be sure to post them. This site should be a place to help each other so be sure to help anyone you can. AND NO ARGUEING IN THIS THREAD. Thanks, Paul. =]
