might need a new connecting rod

yea nice vid. the field looks awsome i wish there was some around my way. but anyway, wrist ring? idk. so u guys dont think its my rod? which is a great thing right? say i get the gasket and take apart the head, where would i get these gaskets at? (for a good price of course.) and what would i be looking for when i have it open? i dont need to drop the motor do i? can just remove the tank and do it from the top?

haha yeah thats sand in north carolina at last years big forum meet :). well it is only 3 bolts to pull the motor... lol. but yeah start there and if you dont see anything from teh top side you are going to have to pull the topend off. catching this now will save you money in the end no matter how much it pisses you off now. cometic EST gaskets are unbeatable

you should get a base gasket as well.
so that is a head gasket and base gasket.

you will want to take the jug off the piston. grab the piston and see if there is any up and down motion. side to side is ok.
if there is any up and down, you need to see if it is the piston that is moving of the rod.
if piston is moving, you need a wrist pin bearing, very easy and cheap to replace.
if the rod is moving, you need a lower rod bearing, cheap part, but costly labor.

man that sounded aweful! If i were you demo401 I would buy a topend gasket kit(oem basegasket only) take the topend apart and take a look. the noise you said soulds like a ring might be snaging.
is this gasket i need? BLASTERBASEGASKET::... to check the problem i dont remove the head? just the cylinder? sorry with all he q's but i appreciate the help. so like sheeblast said, i guess i'll order the gaskets 1st and do what he said. although im still a bit confused on the instructions. "jug" off the piston? see if there is any "up and down" motion? u from the rod or the rod and piston altogether? and DRIFZ1, whats a leak down tester?
