makes me want a utility quad

why the fack do ppl do that sh*t to 4wd quads? i will never understand some things i guess. that is less than desirable to me i suppose.

To be able to do this easier:

stock 4wd's are enough for me i reckon and plus i'm not into mudding like either. whatever floats the boat.

You realize, those people look at us and say "why the hell do they spend $$$ on those race quads"

its a way of life, mudding. plus the whole snorkel thing, is so they dont get water into the exhaust/intake. self explanitory.

as for me, im working on either a mudcat 1000 or a prowler 1000. both would get lifted with some silverbacks. mainly for river riding, since tbh. who takes a blaster through 4ft of water......nevermind...

on top of that, come on., mud nationals? COME ON! B!TCHES LOVE MUDDIN.

You do realize that you do NOT need a mudcat 1000 to river ride.

I saw two 12 year old kids take a yamaha timberwolf 250 (2wd mind you) on bald tires through the 50/50 hole at Busco Beach one time. They had about 4 feet of snorkel above the front rack but they made it without too much trouble either. The problem with big bore quads is that while they can turn HUGE tires, they tend to be like lumps of lead and sink like them too. If you're anywhere there's not a hard bottom, they'll get insanely mired down even with monster tread tires (outlaws, silverbacks) and huge lift kits...

I like a more balanced approach and that's why you see a LOT of fourtrax 300 4x4's on the highlifter forum. They're only like 400lbs wet and with gearing changes can still turn large tires and huge lift.

Example: In the front "water wheelie" pond at busco:

The 50/50 hole (the video is not mine and it was taken before NC's helmet law ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET WHILE RIDING!)

And speaking of the 50/50 hole, I showed a guy on a canam 800 outlander up on my bayou. It looked brand new and it had some MONSTER tires on it but he had tipped it in the hole and got water in his belt drive. The thing would barely crawl out of the hole. My 400 bayou walked through it the whole way and I actually came out of the other end of the hole in a wheelie right past where he was over draining his CVT cover.

I'm a BIG guy and can wrestle one ever that's trying to tip (from floating) or kicks up from hitting something on the bottom (rut or root) because mine was lighter than his, I kept mine upright while his was being wrenched on. Sometimes it's not about ultimate power, but more about power/weight/ground clearance/traction with the best BALANCE of them....

an old friend of mine bought a brand new kawi brute force 750 about 2 years ago something around $12000.
he wanted a machine that would last and he could go anywhere on. im not much a fan of 4x4 or mud but he was. completely stock but its not hard to tell it is made for rough muddy trails. after hitting mudd swamp and water for over a year and cleaning the filter regularly he was getting used to his machine.
we were at the mx track brappin blasters and he desided to hit the mud puddle beside the track. water was barrly at the motor level and the machine took in water and completly killed and siezed the motor. i was shocked VERY sapprised considering this machine should of been designed for much WORSE conditions then what i seen that day.
:p btw hes almost $20000 into that $8000 doller kawi

i thought of this after seein the HONDA over 7 feet underwater and drive off that sicivicdude posted.

HONDA FTW

i wish my dads truck didnt blow up or we would probably still have the sportsman 800, about 2 weeks before he sold it me and my buddys went on a big ride, right before i got the 450r and i took it. i went through a creek by his house all day that was probably 3/4 of a mile long with water past the wheels and tires and this thing was stock height and everything. ive been looking for a brute force for my dad to trade the 06 450er for but its getting traded for a kfx450r monday hopefully.

No bud the kfx has reverse, headlights, fuel injected, worth 900 bucks more then the Trx, my buddy has a yfz and a kfx. The kfx only has a slip on exhaust, the yfz has a bunch of stuff. We drag raced them against my 06 Trx and the kfx beat it and the yfz beat it. Then we raced the kfx against the yfz and the kfx won. The guy that wants to trade doesent want boot either.

this all reminds me of why i ride a sport quad...........
instead of spending countless hours at the same mudhole, getting stuck, mumbling dee-da-dee to myself while i get pulled out and chaw tobaccy juice runs down my chin onto my shirtI:II:II:I

i merely jump over it and am off to way more exiciting things .............
braaaaaaaaaaaaap !

btw...i sure wish i would have gotten into 4x4 parts sales as this craze hit, those who did are rolling in loot, as all this water, mud and sand destroys parts every ride out

While that may be the case on a relatively smooth pre trodden trails, my wife's prairie 400 4x4 on 27" executioners will lead places currently "untravelled" where no blaster dare trod. It's as good a trail machine as my blaster and if it had 4x4 disconnnect I would dare say it would be better in every way except pure acceleration. It will run a verified 62 mph, ford 40" of water, stops great, and will claw its way over and through things that no blaster would try (and if they did, they'd fail). I love my blasty, don't get me wrong, but utilities DEFINITELY have their place and they're on the other side of the mudhole that sport quads can't cross!
