Make an exhaust flange?

I went on FMF's website to order one and it cost $41 including shipping... That's nonsense! Has anyone made one before? And if so how did you do it? I would buy it off someone if you can make it cheaper then what FMF is asking. So if anybody could make me one please let me know, I can't install my pipe until I solve this problem
 
I started a setup that I did not finish. I cut the stock pipe at about 5" from the mounting flange. I was going to take it to an exhaust shop and have them stretch it out to fit the FMF pipe inside it.
 
I got a good deal on a flang. You can make a tab to hook the spring to or just hook it to the jug. You have some thin bars between the fins right above the exhaust port.

How can I just hook it to my cylinder? And by make a tab what do you mean? Pics would would be great if you have any for reference... I have a mig welder so it wouldn't be impossible to this but I'm a little unsure of what your technique/saying to do.

if you have a welder, I would measure the OD of the FMF pipe, get a short piece of exhaust pipe that is that size ID, then cut the part that bolts to the flange out of some moderately thick flat stock.


it would not be that hard to do in all reality, it's just going to be a matter of how well will it fit and seal up when it's finished.

wouldn't it be better for the flange extension to extend into the pipe, same as auto exhausts, front piece goes inside the next ???

you would think so, but a lot of the 2 stroke flanges go the opposite way.

I know my f7 pipe has like an inner ring, and the pipe sits in between the 2.


having the flange run inside the header part would probably provide a better chance of sealing.

oh yeah, thats right, my F7, or whatever the hell it is ?
has the double walled flange too !!!
and still requires hi temp copper to seal it, needs it again now....

yup......my FMF needed it when I had one, and my f7 or whatever pipe it was originally is also due for a redo while it's off. that stuff wasn't real fun to get all the splooge cleaned off of it for the fresh paint!
 
i actually started to make my own flange today, i went to my local hardware store and got a 1 7/8 inch ID steel spacer and with some grinding it slips right over the FMF, after that i slotted the side for the 2 threads to sit in. im gonna try to weld it on my pipe tomorrow and ill take pics of it too, but if that dont work out for me AWK we can work something out instead.
 
Be carefull welding to that fmf, the wall material on the fmf is very thin so its very easy to burn right through it.
 
Like AWK said,...the pipe should fit over the little pipe on the flange... Or to put it another way,the flange piece fits insde the exhaust pipe.
