I can’t push the point too much how important maintaining your engine is.
Here are a few pics. The top ring is almost to the point of splitting into two pieces. The second ring is locked in the ring land. Both ring lands are beat up in the piston.
Clean your air filter and replace parts as needed
Thanks

I always worry about this type of damage. My question is how do you know when it is time to replace items. Could something like this be detected with a compression or leakdown test? I have 60hrs on my stock engine and have not taken off the head or cylinder. I do routine maintenance to the other parts on a regular basis. This is why I have left the quad stock for so long. I only just started to not worry when I found out that my friends daugthers Blaster has over 300hrs on the stock piston and rings. How much is sacrificed in reliability for a 35hp engine? :-/

Thats how my motor looked after it blew up,guy i got it from ran 25:1 with wallmart oil... Never cleaned the filter, jetted wrong.

Now she is new and purrrrrs.

Cranking compression checks and leak down tests
Also pull the exhaust pipe off the cylinder and roll the engine over so you can look at the rings.

you are a genius-----I would never have thought about taking off the pipe to look at the rings. is the exhaust side the side most likely to have problems with the piston and rings? I:I
