LRD Exhaust Help

awk is right, this pipe is in a pipe sootout in the June 1996 3&4 Wheel Action. It was 2nd with 19.7 hp at about 6600 rpm. the stock pipe is17.2 hp at about 7000 rpm. The LRD pipe also used a 30 pilot jet instead of the stock 32.5.. CAN THAT BE RIGHT A SMALLER PILOT JET? It also used a special LRD needle in the #3 position and a 290 main jet...

I usually see people run 290 mains on stock engines, but it obviously varies. Right now I have a 320 main in mine, but then again I am running a Vito's needle which has a much steeper taper to it so that effects my main size somewhat as well. I think a 30 pilot is a bit steep personally. You could just thread the mixture screw out. It could be believable though. Mine had a bit of a hesitation on it around 1/4 throttle until I advanced the timing which probably leaned it out just a little more to make it more smooth on the stock pilot. Hell I might have to go back up to my 33.0 pilot.

Idk but you prob cant find a lrd needle and no mines gotta few aftermarket things but you might be right for the pilot jet thing

And any opinions are these goood pipes i thought and think they are but idk

On a non modded engine, my guess would be a Toomey puts out more power. Once you get to mods, I don't know what would be better, but the LRD's design works better with mods.

i know my idle is way rich but i just figured that i needed to play with the air/fuel screw a lil that could be part of the bottom end bein weak

and yes my next plans are port so ill have prob close the the mods you have ounc i mess with my carb and everything

and what does that vitoos needle do for you?

You might try emailing Arlan at LED an in depth email and see if he has time to give you some info about it. I'm sure he is busier than f*ck right now though.

It's a steeper taper which makes it a richer needle as a whole for fuel from the main to flow over the taper of the needle. I don't have my stock needle anymore, but it's probably a smaller diameter as well which makes it richer.

Ya might do that i honestly think im not used to it a whole lot
the only thing is that im a lil rich at an idle and possibly at low end causin me to now have the power i want. Ounce i hit the top half of secong gear man it just take off so i might just have to really tune her in

do you know a cheap blaster jet kiT? and how do you adjust the neeedle on the clip icant figure it out

You don't need a jet kit. Just order individual mains from a place like Rocky Mountain......they are like $2.50 each. To adjust the needle clip, you need to take the carb off, unscrew the cap on top and pull it out and the slide will pull out with the cap. When you look down through the spring into the slide, you will see a piece of metal with 2 screws in it. Unscrew the 2 screws and it will pop off. From there you will see the needle laying in it's slot......don't lose the 2 little washers. Personally, I'm guessing the 3rd clip would be fine with it, but you can play with the 2nd and 4th clip to see how it does.
