Low to no compression and no start

I got a 2001 blaster that has been sitting for a year before I got it The previous owner rebuilt the bitten end new crank connect rod etc and a new piston rings and jug etc it never started after the rebuild and sat for a year or more I got it Removed all the tors system and it got spark back and tried to start long story short can it sitting so long cause the crank seals to be the problem the one on the left side you can feel air come out of it not just a little but a lot and when it fires smoke comes out of it also what else can cause such a bad leak

Sitting for a long time can cause seals to deteriorate , it would pay to do a leak test..

I plan on doing that tonight is there anything else I should pay close attention to bring it sat for so long It essentials ever started after the rebuild and then sat for pro ot 2 years I just know as a fact a year outside before I got it
