Lost my clutch on the trail today. Still shifts threw gears but lever on perch does nothing outside of move the lever on the case. something inside let go do i need to split the cases?

^^ no splitting cases yet... pull of the clutch cover and see whats going on its really quite easy.

**drain the gear oil from the plug at the bottom of the case, pull the clutch cover off and let us know what you find

yeah man what they said. this motor is so simple to work on if you have a manual. and when you have five hundred guys that got your back it helps too

i dont see anything out of the ordinary here. the gear behind the basket and below the the kicker is a little loose. I press the clutch lever and i can see the basket move a little not much but a little.

I am new to small engines like this but not to mechanics at all. Any pictures of what i am looking for here? manual is so vague. gotta love fsm sometimes.

right in the middle of the pressure plate (the thing with the springs in it) is a nut with a phillips head slot in it, loosen the nut and turn the screw in on it.......u can tell when its adjusted right because the clucth lever arm on the case will line up with the mark thats on the case......lol kinda confusing to explain

Dont doubt your self. Perfect explanation. I tightened the screw in all teh way and then backed it out while wathing the discs. I ended up 3/4 turn out from tight. I have no mark next to lever on case.

Anyway i seem to have a part i have no clue what it is. a washer about the size of a quarter. It was in the clutch cover. I have no idea where it came from. It looks like it was around the sight glass for fluid?

Can i run 80w oil in here?

also the nut does not torque down really just keeps spinning but is tight. cant get it back off either ;)

I don't recall any washers in the sight glass and i have been in that cover many times. so there was a washer just riding around in your tranny? did you get any tention on the clutch lever by adjusting that screw or not?

Yes i got clutch pressure back. i have not put it back together as i am wanting to know about this washer. does it go on the kick starter?

no washers held on by the clutch cover. everything in the clutch cover is held by a nut or circlip before the cover goes on. can you post a pic of the washer. that might help someone place it even if i don't recognize it.

yeah i know but lots of guys like me have been in the clutch cover so many times when you see the part you know it. all the washers in there wear in a certain way and are usually easy to recognize by a picture. unfortuntely my in still together right now. i will grab my manual real quick and take a look.

there is a washer that goes behind the kick starter lever outside the clutch cover about that size. there is also one back behind the clutch boss that is between a spacer and wave washer that hold on the clutch basket.

so unless a magic washer worked its way around the basket. It goes on the kicker shaft than the kicker than the nut. Guess it could have fallen threw the kick hole in the cover and into the cover. All i know is when i picked the cover off the ground to put it back on i heard a little tink and there it was inside the cover.

well i threw some 10/30 in there. f**cker lifts now in 1-2nd. I dunno if its the clutch adjustment or the fact its 60 degrees here. Exhaust note has changed as well. clutch does not grab till the end either...meaning when the lever is almost compressed all the way.
Fells more grabby and seems to make more power or should i say put down more power.

Lost everything today. cant shift when i do its like its in neutral. wtf i gotta walk back 5 miles and get my quad.
