Locked up blaster

I went to look at one from craigslist. When I got there the guy said he came out to start it and after 5 minutes of running, it shut down and locked up. Said it was maybe cause of the oil injector gummed up. I figured a bad piston or something.

I wasn't sure where to start so I took the head off. Nothing in the way or broken. Then I took the cylinder off, no problem there. I took the primary off and removed the clutch. This freed the transmission up and rear wheels would turn but the crank was still seized.

To the other side. I removed the flywheel cover. Low and behold, one of what I assume to be magnet screws had worked out and jammed between the flywheel and the crank case wall. I had to laboriously hacksaw the screw with an open blade hacksaw. I could see no other way to get it out without fear of damaging the case. Surprisingly it didn't crack it or break the case.

It was missing another screw so I need to buy a flywheel remover. I tried to tap it loose with a hammer before I realized it required a puller. Will probably need to replace the flywheel now.

Now to the question. Will the Yamaha dealer possibly stock the puller and the flywheel. We have a big dealer close to the house and I will stop tomorrow, but too late tonight to call. Also, is this a pretty standard part? Kinda one size fits all, or do I need to get numbers off the vehicle? Where would they be located?

I got the blaster, a spare lower end, and a helmet for $350, so not bad if I do say so myself. The spare lower end has a flywheel on it, but I'm not certain it is good and with no way to test will probably be best to just get a new one.

run the spare they dnt realy go bad if its a lil rusty take soem scoch brite or fine sandpaper and removeit ad a puller u can get on rocky mountain or your dealership should have 1 cause this type of puller fits a lot of brands all im sayin is use wat ya got and save the money for modds like a pipe or something

The dealer might stock the puller, but not the flywheel. I would just try that spare one you have first before you buy a new one because it's not a part that usually goes bad.

try the spare it is already paid for. and not verry hard to replace if itis bad. the puller is relitivly cheap $15-$20 and works on other models of bikes as well your local shop probably has one and is probably CHEAPER than the dealer.

dittoooo...run the spare...loctite the stator screws...i bet the stator under there is jacked also...

That's a great deal for a blaster, doesn't seem like too big of a fix either. I would throw in a new top end while your at it, then you are good to go!

I used the whole spare bottom end. It looks to be in much better shape.
I have the motor together and need to put in the frame. I lost the clutch push rod ball and still need to replace the tie rod end. I tried to get the part and they wanted $53 just for one ball joint.

I told them they were crazy and left. May not be able to go back there though.
Good news is I found several ATV junkyards here in Atlanta and will have a look around this next week.
