ect.................................. with a 400ex you basically change the oil, and clean the filter. gas and go. i like my setup a 400ex and a blasty thats all i need.

4 valves, cam, timing chain, 4 valve guides, 4 rocker arms, wait til the 400ex starts smokin.. and it needs vales and valve guides.. or a new head at $500 bare.. i've built a couple 400ex's.. 4 strokes don't last forever. last one i did for a buddy was an 03.. it needed new piston, bore, valve guides, valves, cam, and rocker arms.. he ended up buying a used head off ebay with the cam, rockers,and rocker box .. having me toss the top end on it for him and selling it.. to fix it the right way... was expensive..

mine is a 03 and it runs mint, and i agree that it will be expensive, but i just dont see it giving up any time soon. it could use a new head gasket though.

And thats the good old school xr engine... bombproof.

Now the modern 250's and 450's... those are fun to maintain and rebuild 8-|

a banshees top end rebuild is less expensive than replacing all that on a 4 stroke. like any setup, if you set it up correctly, and maintain it correctly, you shouldnt have to screw with it too much....
