Leaking between carb boot and reed

I just performed a leak down test on the blaster and found it leaking between the carb boot and the reed cage (not where the gasket is between the reed cage and the cyl itself). I put another carb boot on it, thinking that the carb boot was old and worn out, and this also leaked in the same spot. When I say leak, it is not holding any pressure at all from the leak down test.

Is this normal? I don't want to lean out my cylinder and sieze my piston (I just had it bored out).

If it's not normal, then I guess I may have a reed cage that is not sealing well with the carb boot?

Any ideas??

i think when you do a leak down test, the reeds should force closed and not let the pressure past to even get back out to the boot, sounds like a reed prob to me

Oh WOW! Now that is interesting. I've never heard that before (but that doesn't mean that it's not correct!)

Any way to absolutely verify this? When I pulled the reeds out, the 'looked' good and werent' broken and felt tight against the cage...

if air gets out. air can get in.. i woudl say put a very light coat of sealant on that intake and try it again..

i use two gasket one between the reed cage and cylinder and one between the boot and cage also are you correctly tightening the bolts cause over tightening will caust they boot to distort possibly causing a leak

yup wat he said^^^^^^ ans use some silicon on your gaskets

I may have overtighten the bolts, to 'make sure' that no leaking occurred, but perhaps I did distort the rubber a bit. I'll get a torque wrench out and ensure I'm right on.

Do you use the same gasket on both surfaces, or did you make a gasket for the boot/cage fit?
