I did a leak test today and I noticed right away it's leaking out of the cylinder base almost all the way around. I wanted to check with you guys before I go throwing money at it. Should I try torquing it back to specs or do I definitely need to replace the gasket? Thanks.

You can try torquing it down, but it probably will not work. Order an OEM gasket and clean both surfaces really good.

Thanks for the reply. Upon further inspection it doesn't appear to have a gasket in it at all. I'm surprised at how well it runs for having such a bad leak. I think I have a brand new gasket somewhere. I was thinking it was the metal head gasket for some reason. I'll put a new gasket in and do another leak test and see what she says. Thanks again I:I

If that bike was running without a base gasket you probably would have detonation issues. I would guess there is a gasket in there.

Hahaha nope there wasn't a gasket. I swapped the piston and head from my other motor with a freshly honed cylinder and newer piston and put a new gasket in. Now it starts up and idles and will actually rev up now and not bog out and stall. I think I'm getting there.I:I although I think I went from an overbore back to stock when I swapped the piston and head. The piston that was in it had 1.00 stamped on it, the other one had no markings. No big deal either way cause I swapped it as a set. I didn't want to risk mismatching them.

No need for worry here, I double dog dare you to notice a decrease in power.:D

No I forgot to leak test before I put it back together. It's been way to hot for me to do anymore work on it lately. Next thing I do is another leak test.
