My kickstart wont engage every time should I replace the whole assembly or can I get away with just replacing the ratchet gear in there? And yes I am kicking hard enough for the gear to kick out.

uuuummmmm thats pretty damn vauge without any pics or additional details lol :) , does something appear to be worn out or broken? prolly if it were me i would just get on old egay and get one, they are normally cheap.

If it happened suddenly ya prolly broke sumthin ... If it's an old motor and has been getting worse over a period of time this might help. Some folks take the term kickstart literally and stomp instead of push :) ... The gears get hammered over time and develop a burr on the edge of the teeth. You can't really see the burrs but can feel the sharp edge with your finger. You can clean these up with a stone and dremel. Don't really need the dremel. Did this to one of our old blasters a few years ago and it hasn't missed since. Shouldn't need to buy new gears.

well it did start all of a sudden and when i pulled the crankcase off i found the spring had popped out of the hole in the case and I found two pieces of metal about an inch long that looked like a piece of spring that got ran through the gears

its the circlular spring, it returns the kickstart assembly, so you can kick it again. it fits into the hole in the case, not the cover. there is a picture someone took and points out where the three parts of the kickstarter goes. you have to take the footrest off, cover off, and then line up the square piece on kickstart assembly, and the circle spring, and then the flat spring gets twisted and pushed into the correct hole. search kickstart on here and find the picture diagram, its color coded
