I ordered a wiseco top end kit for my banshee and its awesome but the gaskets that came with it are K&S brand they look to be descent theyre have a raised rubber/rtv line around the base gaskets and the head gasket is a coated steel identical to what i took off before rebuilding it.

I dont want any issues later on and the thing that scares me is that these are the paper gaskets but they have a bead of silicone or rubber around the edges so im sure theyre better than just a regular old paper but how good is the k&s stuff?i did a search on google and guys are using them with no issues but are suggesting a few things one of which i do to all gaskets on any engine i build except when using cometic gaskets and thats use the copper spray gasket adhesive and the other is to spread a thing coating of yamabond which ive not done one base gaskets but i do do it on reed cage gaskets for extra insurance.i do however spray the head gaskets with the copper spray gasket adhesive and havent ever had an issue.

What are you guys opinions on the k&s and little tricks for extra insurance?

Awk has sucked one of those gaskets into the transfer before and burnt up a top end. Ken and Awk now only swear by cometic gaskets or OEM base gaskets. Take that for what it's worth to you. Personally, I've had fine luck out of paper gaskets and never had one suck in on me.

The rest of the components are similar and equal to pretty much all of the other brands and styles. All intake gaskets can leak if not sealed properly and all head gaskets have a good shot of sealing.

If you want to use those K&S gaskets, I soak just a touch of yamabond 5 into the paper down both sides and let it dry most of the way before installation. Just a little extra insurance.. Then again, most would argue that buying the cometic or OEM base gaskets is also extra insurance and much less likely to have to pay out!

Yea im going to go ahead and buy the oem base gaskets and go with them for extra insurance.

I have also seen a one peice base gasket would that be a better idea?

Is the one piece gasket OEM or is it aftermarket? I guess if you were using a monoblock cylinder the one piece would make sense BUT since you have two separate cylinders, do you want to have to yank both if you need to remove one for any reason? If you've got one big gasket and you have to pull only one cylinder, you'll have to pull the other one just to change the gasket. I think I'd rather have two gaskets....

i have sucked them green paper gaskets into the transfers, twice.
once on my bike, and once while i was riding mrs. oconnors blaster.
and ken has seen it on others.

i wouldnt use one of them to wipe my ass in an emergency

OEM/COMETIC for the win !!!!

You'd walk around with a nasty ass, even in an emergency? That's just creepy.... I:I

i had one of the K&S gaskets fail on start up when I first put my bike together. made for a bad day for me.
