Just purchased a 2003 Blaster for $950. Extra quad for buddies etc. to go with my '08 Raptor 700. When we looked at it it seemed to be making some engine nois, piston slap etc. but then again many other Blasters seem to sound the same. Took it to the dunes on Sunday and piston seized.
Pulled it apart, piston skirt broke off and a piece was lodged in the crank I believe causing it not to kick over. My buddy pulled it apart so I did not see this myself. Cylinder walls/head look perfect. I'm going to get it bored the next size up as the piston seems a bit sloppy in there when we check it by hand. We will open the case to check it out and remove metal pieces etc.
My buddy has a kit to split the case but his bolts aren't long enough. Is there another way to split the case w/simple tools etc. or should he just get longer bolts? We figured since the rod may have a slight bend (looks fine naked eye)
and crank or crank bearings may have been damaged, why pay for someone to pull the crank/rod apart (becuase they are pressed) We just figured apply the $$ to a stroker kit. What stroker kit is recommended? I don't want to sink alot of $$ in this thing either. What kit can we use without having do modify anything else (trench case etc.) from what I read a vito's sounds good.
We are going to remove the oil injection system. Should we get the kit or save the $$ and follow the instructions on this site to block it off?
Any other hints or ideas when rebuilding this? My engine knowledge is limited.
My buddy has had several two-strokes apart but never a Blaster engine.

Thanks for spending five minutes reading this and any input is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Get the vito's 3+ stroker when they get back in stock. They are only a little bit more than a stock rod. Also go ahead and replace the crank bearings and seals while your in there. You won't get much out of a stoker unless you get it ported to match the new stroke. If you don't want to spend that much $$ get the vito's stock stroke with stuffers cheap on e-bay.You can just follow the instructions for the oil block off on the site. Also Welcome to Blaster forum.

i second that! i would wait for vitos3mm to get back in stock and have the cylinder ported. at least it would then have a little nutz!

the block off kit is really a waste of $$$. you can bypass it without buying the kit of youre crafty. as far as teh vito's crank, i have never heard of many people with bad things to say about them. me personally, i find it hard to put money into a chineese made crankshaft after seeing these craptastic ATV's and motors coming out of china these days.

another option is to keep the stock crank and go with a high compression gasket kit. its not as big of an upgrade, but for the $25 its definately worth the money. that coupled with a high compression head/dome and you are in business for much less $$$.

yup but ur gonna waste that $$ in high compression fuel for the machine.and the pos china engines arent the problem, its the frames and suspension that is real sh*t! i had a crf50 swapped the head, piston and cylinder with a china 80 cc and never had a problem with it. all the steel they use is sold to them by the states so it should be decent.

bought a thumpstar 125 for the kids when they first came out. i wont make that same mistake again. every time they took it out it came back with something else broken

All parts on order. Went with the Vitos stroker. Every seal, gasket, bearing etc. will all be new so it will end up being a complete rebuild.
Who makes the best pistons for these? My buddy ordered all of the stuff for me so I'm not certain which brand of piston I'm getting yet.
