Jetting kit & Fuel mixing

So i bought a blaster yesterday and has a full FMF fatty and powercore 2 on it but has a standerd carb and jet!

Any way it starts up and when you try give it more than a touch of gas the engine dies - Do i need a jetting kit and air filter


What kit should i buy? B)


Im in the uk and carnt seem to find any jetting kits so if some 1 from uk could help me with a link for 1?:-/

It also has sperate fuel and oil mixing tanks how do i change it to premix? - Also should i run it at around 38/1 fuel and oil mix.

32:1 is what most of us run. the carb sounds dirty. how do you know it has slandered jets in it ? you need to take the carb off and clean it. see what jet is in it and go from there. plug chops are a must but do a search or maybe someone will chime in with a good starting point. no one know for sure what the right jet is per bike you have to do plug chops and figure out that jet your bike likes

Thanks for the info - the man that i bought it off said that it hasent been jetted , and as far as im aware you need to rejet after putting a pipe on.

Im not good with fixing and upgrading parts so it will have to go to a garage to be done - what kit do you recomend FMF or a differnt 1?

Sorry to be dull but what is the plug chops?
 
if you use the search button and put in plug chop there will be more posts then your eyes can read. as for what "kit" is gonna be right. its hard to say. vitos makes a kit with a few different jets if your bringing it to a shop make sure they know what there doing. if they do then you dont have to worry about what kit it needs they will know. you dont need a bigger carb your not that modded, but i would not ride it till you get it jetted right, running lean is like running with out oil, it never ends good

and as for ridding it will only start up but will cut out with any more than about 4,5% of throtel

Im hoping a garage can do it as i havent got a clue - so leave the jetting and let a garage sort it for me as well is it

But anyway I searched eBay and got a keihin jet kit for£15 delivered so if you do a bit of research in to standard carb jets then look on eBay you can't go wrong. As for jetting it download the free manual from here I'm sure it will tell you how to change them.

Would it be a good idea just to buy a aftermarket carb?

As im new to changing bits and fixing and wouldnt no where to start!
Also having trouble finding some where near me that i would be able to take the quad and have it done!
 
not much point you changing the carb yet, your motor will not be able to utelize it yet, rather have some proting done and chuck in dome decent reed valves 1st. id say you looking at about 260-270 main jet just with the FMF on. stock is a 230. you can get them from any yamaha agency, just ask for a 260 Mikuni jet! as for the premixing, you can remove the little pump and block off the opening and plug the oil feed line into the carb and you are sorted.
 
Ok thats very helpfull as i would not be looking forward to spending mega money on a new carb thank you.
I only want to get the quad running tidy for the moment so i can have a goo:D

And i will sort the premixing when i get the quad running tidy - When its running tidy i was thinking of getting VForce3 on it.

They look very similar to my pwk jets but mine only go up to a 205 main as it's a bigger carb sure it should be fine. As for the oil block off look for a DIY on her and there is a pic of some yamaha parts used to do it, then give these part nuns to your local shop to order them for you mine was around £15
 
So if i get that jet that i posted the link to would that be ok or would i have to get other jets to?

And whats DIY as im new to the site and carnt use it tidy yet & new to quads so i no pretty much nothing!
And is that £15 to conrevt it to pre mix?

that is the correct jet but one is not enoungh, its a shot in the dark jetting is not a hard and fast thing, every bike is different and it takes time and patience to get it right.

you will need a selection, like a 260, 270, 280. maybe even a 250.

read the jetting sticky in the engine section

Is the E brake the wire that runs from the front down the side by the carb running to the back axle?
If so then it has been unpluged also i checked all the wires and i toke off 4-5 wires off that wasnt conected to any thing

So got it started but it only starts with the choke half way out and it was tiking over tidy and i managed to give it a few revs at about 10% throtle - Any more and it was bogging and cutting out!

If the choke is off or on full , It starts for around 2 - 3 seconds then cuts straight back out
