Is this supposed to be here?

Hey guys, this engine that I'm working on (shift lever snapped the case when chain popped) has an odd hole through the right case that doesnt look like it was machined out. I was wondering if this hole is meant to be there, or whether I have a damaged right side case. The hole Im mentioning is to the left of the clutch basket, you can almost see a gear behind the hole. I'm not an avid rebuilder but was looking forward to this.


Secondly, when splitting the outer cover off to get to the clutch basket, I heard something small and metal pop out, which I havent been able to locate. Any guess as to what this could be? no other small parts are really enclosed by the outer unit.

I believe that hole is suppose to be there to allow oil to pass through. I know there's a tiny spring on the backside of the shifter. It may have popped off. Maybe check the kick start mechanism as well.

That hole is for oil as my buddy fast6hand said. Check for the two dowel pins that align the case and the cover.
