Is the motor shot??

Im new to working on my own stuff so i need a little advice....i was riding my blaster the other day and it was running fine with no weird noises or anything. As i turn a corner it died so i tried to start it and it would start then after a few times the kick start locked up. The engine still has compression and the gears all look fine......what could it be?

how do you know you have compression if the kick starter is locked up? Will it roll in gear? or are the tires just locked completely?

It rolls over in 2nd and 3rd gear but not easy and you can hear motor turning over (hardly) but the wheels are pretty much locked up i would say

well it shouldn't roll over too ez in gear. but if it rolls over at al it is not locked up. is the motor making weird noises when it rolls over? the kickstarter still wont' move? If the kicker won't move i would remove the clutch cover and take a look. you have to drain the tranny oil before you pull the clutch cover.

i pulled clutch cover off and all looked good i didnt dig into it othere then take kick start gear out and looked it over. and it wont roll over enough to hear if there was a weird noise like i said the wheels are pretty stiff but they do roll over hardly...i do recall my cousin saying when he rode it the othere day at high rpms it made a clicking noise but i never heard it and it wasnt making that noise the day i was riding it when it died...

If you feel comfortable doing it yourself take the top end off and check it out.

pull the top end and take a look at the piston crown.

do a leakdown test before you do anything else, so you know the problem before you take any more apart. You can create leaks and never know what the original problem was.

There is a diy to make your own, Slickerthanyou here on the forum selss excellent testers for 30 shipped, and it will be worth your while

The clicking your refering to happens if your buddy was riding it hard high in the RPM's and down shifting quickly 3 or 4 gears it will make that clicking noise and it certanily isint good for your motor. Gasing it hard every few seconds rather than not letting off can ruin a motor if done for a while. I think if your quad was locked up in nutral then I'd say the same thing as everyone else before me good luck with it...

well without tearing it apart from what everyone is saying i will just rebuild the top end in it,

what is a good kit or top end to put in it for a good price? (i dont race)
