Has anyone tried to remove the intake tube off the bike and attach a filter directly to the carb? I have a K&N filter that fits right on to it but still want to know if it would do anything to help the performance? Thanks in advance
:-/

i have seen it done, most say to use a velocity stack(i.e a 4-5" peice of tubing between the carb and filter)
Make sure you dont go through any water.
If you do your probably better off just taking your airbox lid off

Called a pod filter and you should run a velocity stack. There will be no problems as long as you stay out of any water and mud.Good for dunes and drags and anywhere very very dry.

To be safe jump 3 main jet sizes before running it with just the pod filter , then do a plug chop to dial it in . We'd need to know your other mods to the bike before being able to narrow it closer than that . And junk the K&N and get a uni dual stage filter and a outerwears wrap for it .

yeah i run that setup. the K&N filter number is RU1080 i think. diffinatly invest in the prefilter for it and yeah water is a no no....

jetting is a trick but not hard, im at sea level running a 62 pilot, and a 185 main w/ 2nd clip on the jet needle.

do you guys running the k&n pod/velocity stack have to support it at the back ???
because of the weight of the k&n it seems it would have a tendency to flop around and possibly come off/loose

I run an open uni but held in the factory location it won't stay still in my raptor tail I had to secure mount it because it kept fallin down...I'm also running a boyeson rad valve/reeds not sure of the jetting but as long as u go a couple steps up and keep the filter dry all should work well

Just rememebr the littlest of mods on a quad will need other lil mods to perform at its fullest

well the bike has a FMF fatty pipe and a power core 2, Vforce 3 reeds, .40 over, port and polish, head shaved, vitos plus 3mm stroker crank and i am running 14 40 for sprokets. I will do the plug chop and see what happpens

I'm making up my own intake here soon for my new 35mm and I've wondered that as well. My goal is is to come up with a design that has close to the air flow of a clamp on with a 3" balancer tube........and still be able to ride in semi wet conditions....quite a challenge.

Since I'm at Lowe's almost every day, I have looked into PVC, vent duct work, pre fab aluminium boxes, roof flashing, chimney covers, and even toilet plunger holders. I:I I have no issues welding, but I personally am not a stickler for the looks of the end product, so I may just rivot and JB weld whatever I mock up for less of a headachle which is more than strong enough for an "airbox".

My biggest issue is my imagination and what can fit where effectively, what can shield tire debris effectively, and I'm also working on trying to make the whole deal a straight shot into the intake......why is the stock intake boot, and boot back to the airbox all on angles?......only because of the shock being in the way. I'm probably going to be picking up a 400ex shock for $1(:D) and slapping that on, so I will have to account for the rezzie too. Hmmm......decisions decisions. I'll take pics as I go just for the hell of it. Doubt anybody will be interested in it, but I'll throw it out there for at least people with future ideas to guage off of past trials. I'm looking into mounting locations still.....thinking about hanging/attaching a support for the tube on the OEM intake to carb boot support and then going from there.
