So I bought a new blaster which ran like crap...would cut out at the top end. Replaced everything from stator to plug, only to find the guy was running a 350 main jet on a basically stock blaster. I figure I need to be at 250 tops, it has pipes and now +3 degree from the new stator. Adjusted the needle to be on the lowest slot on the carb to lean it out...it almost runs right. Then a funny noise started and I took apart the right side of the case, which I needed to anyway as the kicker stopped returning properly. I found a clip on the kicker assembly was broken, as was a sprocket, and there was virtually no oil. Funny since the guy I bought it from just replaced the clutch but whatever. I havent removed the clutch yet but on a quick inspection I couldnt find where the sprocket that broke goes. I figure it must be in contact with the kicker gear since I got no resistance all the sudden and had to push start it to get back to the shop. So anyway, the point of all this is that if anyone knows what gear/sprocket name or part number this is I would be eternally grateful as I would rather do it myself than pay for someone to do it...but I dont know where it goes :)

I thought the gear was forged as part of the kicker shaft, but I could be wrong. If you don't have a manual, someone here who knows the link will send it to you, in the mean time, check out Cheap Cycle Parts and on the right hand side, just put in the bike info and look for OEM parts. Each section has an exploded view and a parts list.

That looks like the gear behind the clutch basket hard to tell im on my phone right now.check the clutch out should be a gear behind the clutch basket its the only hidden one.

Lesson to be learned here kiddies dont belive any of what you bear and half what you see and always perform the basics when buying somethimg used or used like check fluids change fluids verify jettimg and so on.

Thanks for the link EZ...couldnt really tell from the pics of the tranny which gear it is, but looks like a good place to get parts. And Thanks Budget, that was what I figured...murphy's law was pointing me to behind the clutch :) Any advice on jetting? is my 250 guess about right for a +3 advanced stocker with a fmf gold pipe and k&n air filter with no lid?

Yuppers...a quick glance over at the sale only shows ya the lip stick and mascara, but like a good hooker, ya gotta pay in order to find out the real deal. My purchase 2 months ago has forced me to learn more than I ever wanted to know...and then some. People will lie, especially when it comes to getting rid of something they, A) can't work on, B) don't want to work on or C) can't afford to work on....and they are always in a rush, or have someone else coming soon willing to pay the full price.

Shipping costs will kill you thru that site. Those prices are what your local Yamaha Dealer/Service Station will charge and they usually have that stuff in stock, at least mine does. There are other sites too, RockyMountainATV, BikeBandit (google those) and of course, eBay and the classifieds here at BF.

Guess again, #250 is way too small.

#280 to #290 and plug chop to make sure.

yea I dl'd that manual and couldnt find what I was looking for unfortunately. Anyone have suggestions on jetting?

hmmm maybe I will get a 280 and a 300 then. I ride at elevation around my house, like 3-6 thousand feet...but hopefully if I can get this thing dialed in I will take it to Winchester Bay in a few weeks and that is at sea level and of course asking a lot of a blaster power wise considering the size of those dunes.
