I have a BBK with a Ken oConnor race engines video port job. Look for his videos, their great. I've always felt it was geared a little low. With this rebuild the engine feels really strong. I blow through the first 3 gears like their not even there. Gears 1 through 3 are for climbing trees only, I need to make them useable. I have a 38 tooth rear already on quad, with a 14t front, now. All I can say is my ass tells me I need to be geared higher. I'll buy a 15t off someone here or I'll buy one somewhere else. I've heard both you do and you do'nt have to shave the case to make everything fit. What do you guys think, do you or do'nt you have to shave the case? It's not a big deal for me, I have acess to a full machine shop. I'm just looking for some opinions on fitment. I could'nt find any usefull info when I search it. Thanks

you have to just cut the plastic stator cover a bit. just not much clearance to the cases. too close for my compfort. I have a 15 i put on and it was too close for my likin

idk about shaving it except that will be really high geared but i guess you are pullin some power tho

Try changing tire size before putting a 15 tooth on it. What size are you running? Im guessing 18's by the way your complaining about too short of gearing. If you do have 18's then try some 20-21's. might be happier with that size.

I tend to share some similar thoughts as him. Granted, I run 14/40 gearing but I blow through 1-3 gears so damn fast that they need to be taller than 5th and 6th are a little too tall. 1st gear is essentially completely useless. I don't usually care about top speed, but the internal gear ratios need some adjusting outside of just the sprockets alone.

It was just a suggestion... But I also am very picky about my gearing and will be experiementing when my blaster is back up and running. For those who dont know the tranny and its gears from the dt200 are compatible with the blaster. You can swap all the gears or, my favorite part, you can mix and match. This would be the option for the hardcore gear whore. Swap gears in and out to get her right where you want her.

You will have to take a little off ofthe stator cover. As far as going down in the rear I believe 38 is as low as you can go before you have to change the sprocket hub.

i got my 38 from vitos... but yeah id be changing tire size and rear sprockets before doing the 15 front one loose chain slap and you got a nice hole in the case. if you get a honda sprocket i believe you can drop to a 34 rear

Yes I am running 38's on the rear (forgot to mention that). They came on the quad when bought and have 75% tread left. I ca'nt see myself buying 20's untill these are worn out. I can see the 15t sprocket will be very, very close to case. I'm gonna barrow a set of 20's from a friend and see if that makes enough of a change. I agree, the trans. is geared wrong for a good strong running engine. I see the front gear can move back and forth about a 1/16 to 1/32". I might make a washer to take up slack and move gear away from case a little. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet, but I'm gonna do somethong.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want it geared so tall? You need to have one mega built engine to pull that gearing topping it out and cruising at speed is tough as it is. As for tire size, it is a HUGE difference in speed. It's about 3mph difference in top speed for every inch of tire size you go up and down.

I'm not trying to get big top end speed. I'm trying to get the bottom three gears useable. I did put in a friends set of 22" tires on and ran it this afternoon. It was a big difference. It's pretty good now. Your hauling ass in 6th now, was hitting it was to early before. I dont really like the look of a 22" tire but if I go smaller it will kill my gearing, What to do, What to do? Tire size was a big change though.
