this is the one that was sitting for almost ten years. i cleaned the carb out real good and went over everything. im getting spark but the most i can get the motor to do is run for a few seconds if that. i have the 28mm keihin carb on it and i was trying different settings with the long black plastic screw with the spring on it but i couldnt get it to ever improve.

any help would be very much appreciated thank you

oh you know i actually have no idea. i may have screwed it all the way in when i cleaned everything. what should it be set at?

also if you had that all the way closed you probably didn't get the idle circut cleaned unless you just did that when you put it back in

i took it out when i cleaned it and must have ran it all the way in after i cleaned it.

i just called my brother and had him check it. it was closed. i had him back it out 1.5 turns but he couldnt get it to fire either unfortunatly. the bikes at my parents house. i have no where to keep it here and if i left it outside it would get ripped off. ill prolly go mess with it tomorrow or thursday.

im actually entertaining buying a cheap running one and using mine for parts.

as far as i know it is. the plug is plenty wet. what should i be looking for on the 28mm keihin carb? what should the black plastic screw with the spring around it be set at?

the engine would just occasionally fart it ran for a few seconds on rare occasion. i was even putting gas down the plug hole at the time.

im going to go work on it tomorrow i think any suggestions so i can get her runnin? i may bring it to ken oconnor to get it gigured out but id like to get it runniung if i could and just have him bore and hone it. trying to keep costs down till i get some more hours on it.

Putting the gay right into the cylinde rif you put to much, you likely fouled the plug. try a new one.

you put fresh gas in it ?

ya the carb settings. are a key to trying to get it to run. 1 1/2 seems to get it running.

you might thing about a leak down test, sitting that long, likely dried up the seals. you could have air leak

If you have to dump gas into the plughole to make it run, you either have a poor fuel supply, broken reeds or an air leak.

Check the reeds for chipping of fraying.

Do a leak down test to check for air leaks.

Thourghly clean the carb paying strict attention to the pilot jet.

A word of warning, it is a really bad idea to dump premix in the plughole, although it contains oil, it provides no lubricating properties.

Unless the fuel goes in through to carby no lubrication is provided to the bottom end.

The rings were seized to the piston I saw that before I put the cylinder on. I took them off and cleaned then up with sand paper. It only blew 100psi. I know thats really low but I think it should still run correct? I haven't checked the reeds yet our checked for an air leak.

I plan on either reringing it or just get it bored and honed, but I was hoping to get it running first before I dumped a bunch of money into it.

If you are thinking of re-ringing you want to know what caused the rings to bind to the piston.

Do a leak down test as I fear that you have been slowly frying you piston for a long period of time.

well when we first got mine we had to put gas in the plug hole to get it to start but it was because of a air leak and i still rode it for about 8 or 9 monthe befor we had to toutch the motor and it just had low compression but if it has a air leake you need to fix it now or you will end up having to do a top to bottom rebuild like me
