that hub actually looks like an old 3-wheeler hub and i to would say that the splines are probably messed up.

that thing is f*cked up. you may want to think about the grinder and just try to cut the hub off. at this point there's a good chance that axle is fubar anyway so just be careful with the angle grinder and see what you can do

im with 305 on this one if its that stuck on then the axle is shot. no sense in beating an pounding on it, i would chop the axle to get it out an replace it all

TA DAAAA! got it off! I used a press/ a little oxy-acetylene persuasion AND BAM it came off!I:I
Also, amazingly the splines are fine but the thread snapped where the cotter pin goes
