Anyone installed a HID conversion kit in their car or truck, i wanna buy high and low beam off ebay.. but im not really convinced that for $50-100 i can add something that costs $1000 oem..... I wanna know do they really work well.... not some chinese crap that explodes and leave me with a huge bill at the lexus dealer to fix.... are there certain ones that are better then others.. i know there are tons of brands out there that arent really brands... and from my experience with chinese wholesalers in my previous employment... i know that there is a good chance they are all made in the same place and I could have my own brand of them too if i bought a container full....

So anyone did this upgrade.. i thinking for the winter it might be a good idea to have those nice bright white lights for better visability...

Cheers

Ill take a look at those websites.. on the lexus owners forum im on they hadnt installed them on a rx300..and the websites they linked me too on that forum, just looked like american companies selling the same chinese made stuff that you can get direct from manufacteur... which made me wonder if there is a difference in quality from one to the next...

I think ill have to still do some more research... these kits say made in germany, which i assume would be a bit better...they are also 3x the price... i also have to take a look and see if i have seperate bulbs for high and low beam.. or if its an all in one bulb thing...

what seller did you use 305???

Sheeblast..... If you go to the dealer and ask them for HID for my car... they are almost $1000 from the lexus dealer... because the oem ones have some sort of projector lens or something i thought i read somewhere... they are a whole new headlight too.. not just replacement bulbs... i service a lexus dealer so i asked when i was there...

thats canadian money tho.. LOL

ya you have to add in the lexus tax.

I can look it up and see what bulbs you need. but if u do need low and high bulbs. make sure you dont get crappy ones. with cheap ones when u switch from low to high it takes a little bit for the bulb to heat up and turn on so when u switch from lows to highs u have like 3 sec of no lights. but if its a dual filament bulb then no worries.

I have them in both my trucks and my little brothers truck. Best money ever spent. But I would not waste money on the high beams because these bulbs need time to heat up (5-10 seconds) so you are better off with regular high beams. And with the light output from the HIDs you will not need the high beams lol. But as for where to buy get them from DDMtuning.com. Best prices I believe its around 50 shipped for a kit and that has a lifetime warranty on the ballasts. Also I wouldn't go over 6000K color because after that the light is too blue and the popo will be pullin ya over lol. I have 35w 5000K in both the lows and fogs in my silverado and its bright as hell. And you don't need the 55w kit the 35w will be just as bright.

I was kinda thinking that the low beam HIDS might be brighter then the high beam regular lights...... $50 shipped is about as cheap as ive been able to find them.... ill check that site out for see what they want shipped to canada..

B-1:
Its for a 1999 RX300..... and Ive priced out the flipdown, and im thinking i might be better off getting a headunit, and modding my front dash to accept the motorized head unit... theres a video on youtube, and most the stuff ive seen on a website called installer.com i think it was... then i could have that headunit for up front for back up camera etc, and still run the existing unit for the rear monitors.... i figured out the IR headphones thing no problems... i found headphones with built in fm tuners, and i already have the dvd running thru a fm modulator... cheap and effective enough for the kid... the main idea is to be able to run the 10disc dvd for the rear monitors with headphones, while up front and thru the sound system i can listen to whatever... or when not travelling with the little one.. i have have whatever is on the headunit.. also running to the rear monitors... which i think i have figured out from the diagrams on the savv website...

im sure u have the bulbs figured out by now but the low beam is a 9006 and the high beam is a 9005. and as far as the headunit u doin a flipout or double din?

It has to be flip out... because the main brain cant be taken it.. it controls the a/c and a lot of the functions of the car... so from what ive read.. you can relocate the heated seats and 12v socket and company makes a bracket to fit in the section in behind the shifter... there is only room for a single din.... and from my understanding.. depending how fast the screen slides out before it goes up and back in... you will need to put the shifter down to at least drive.. maybe even the bottom until the screen goes back...

now ill eliminate the stock 6 disc changer for now.. and run the aftermarket unit to the stock speaker system...... the video from the headunit to the savv monitor brain as video 2.... since the 10 disc dvd changer is video 1..... and in theory it should all work the way i want it... im still looking for a good DIY for getting the console apart so i can get where all the wires are store behind the gear shifter..

Heres a pic of the console..

have u looked at the single din dvd. u might want a bigger screen but they would give u the features that u want without having to worry about it hitting the shifter. jvc makes some good ones. the avx77 is nice. ill look and see if i can find how to get the dash out

Ive heard they you need to aim them a bit lower.. not exactly sure how you aim the headlights tho... or how ill know if they are aimed too high.. ill get my girlfriend to sit in her car..and ill drive down our road..and ask her if they are too high or something i guess...
