Ok, guys, I have a stupid question I need answered. I was doing an ignition tune-up on my wife's 1994 Chevy S-10 Blazer last night. It has the 4.3L, CPI "W" code VIN # engine in it.

I installed a new ignition coil and replaced the distributor cap and rotor. It was running OK before I took anything apart, but it had a slight miss from what I think was a defective ignition coil. The engine now starts and runs, but it has a VERY noticible miss, vibrates badly, and has no power. I'm pretty sure I accidentally crossed a couple plug wires.

This engine fires 1-6-5-4-3-2 with the distributor turning clockwise, correct? Odd numbered cylinders are on the driver's side, with the evens on the passenger side? I've seen diagrams but wanted to ask somebody who knows these engines better than I.

Also, is there anything that could have been 'almost bad' in the distributor that I may have jarred and finally broken when I had the cap off? There is a little rust in there from a previous owner's lack of maintenance, but I figured the electronic pickup doesn't care since its sealed. I cleaned and blew it out as best I could. There appears to be a timing advance weight in there that moves freely but isn't noticibly damaged.

Either way, I gotta figure it out somehow. I'll be changing plugs and wires as well when I get home today, so that all the normal wear ignition parts will be brand-new. Got rained out last night.

i had a s20 with the 4.3 and i always had a problem with the number 3 cylinder. number 3 was always misfiring. i changed my plugs and wires, but never could figure it out. does a 94 have cap and rotor? i know my 98 had coil packs

Yeah, its got the old vertical cap with a rotor, just like in the '50's. lol. I thought this old-school tech was supposed to be reilable.

o yeah you said you replaced it. did you turn the distributor though? if you accidentally did, you might have thrown the timing off

Recheck your wires and make sure you didn't crack any plugs. A little tip. The back plugs are easy to get to if you go threw the wheel well. Just lift up the rubber flap over the upper a arm and the plugs are rite there.

look at it this way, a 4.3 is a chevy 350 with 2 cylinders cut off, except the 'spider' is known to go bad on them, the spider is the injector set up, but i doubt thats the problem as it would hardly run if that was the problem,

did you use quality parts of bottom shelf parts?? oem style plugs, the 4.3 were also known for the rust in the cap due to crappy placement of a weep hole on this dist

thats what i did. jacked it up cause mine was lowered and changed all 6 of them through the wheel wells. but yeah. maybe a cracked plug wire or check all the wires. maybe ones loose or you put them on wrong
