I like to 600 grit the whole thing and then goto work with a Dremel, some small wheels, and green compound.

i use 0000 steel wool and then "Mothers Aluminum Polish"

yeah use some 1000 grit sandpaper and go at it with some "Mothers Aluminum and Mag Polish" i polished the rims, rear grab bar, and bar clamp on my sport bike with it and it was a mirror shine. got everything at auto zone!

Most of the dremmel tools have polising pieces in it.

there you go ridinfast03, that's what polished is really supposed to look like! almost like chrome.
here's a before and after of my polish job on my aluminum fork sliders, steel rotor and brake caliper.
i actually went back a couple weeks ago and pulled the rotor to hit it again w/ an orbital sander cuz it's ridiculously hardened so i wasn't able to get a good cut on it the first time around. but you get the idea from the sliders i think....

Here's my old 38mm mikuni I did. It's a 30 year old carb!
