ok so im new to blasters. i bought one yesterday and the guy claimed it just needed tuning. It would run real smokey and weak with the choke out but wouldnt idle. it was cheap so i said what the heck and got it. Well a buddy and i tried cleaning the carb being the most obvious thing to try first. Well it started but it revved real high and idled at what sounded like nearly full throttle. so we tried to turn the idle down a bunch and still it was high. so we turned the ratio screw down on the side that helps control idle and when we got it started that time we could control the throttle using the choke as our throttle but it was popping and wanted to rev high with the choke out. sorry about how long this is it was a long night. well we put on the other carb the guy gave me and when we started it it ran away and we had to kill it instantly. so we decided to put the old carb back on since it seemed to give us more luck. we pulled the plug and it was very black and oily so i cleaned it and it started first kick but ran away a little and now it just halfway starts and pops a little then dies. the guy tried to delete the oil injection but he didnt plug all of the holes. and the tors is still on it i beleive. if anyone could help it would be much appreciated. thanks and sorry again for the length of the post. i couldnt find anyone else with similar problems.

It sounds like an air leak.Check your carb cap to make sure it's tight and not stripped. Then check your carb boot for any rips or holes.Check that your head bolts are tight to spec.If you don't find anything post back and we can try other things to check.

make sure he capped where the oil line goes to the carb.. make sure your premixing at 32 to 1, also check what size jets are in the carb both pilot and main, let us know whats done to the bike pipe, reed, airbox ect..

hmmm, is the smoke out the pipe white?. if so then sounds like your burning gear oil and could be a bade crank seal or its leaking from the two halfs. cause my boys would do the same thing would just wanna rev and would only idle down on full/ half choke and it his was burning gear oil was leakin in from the two halfs. could you post a vid?.

Thanks a lot guys. the guy who owned it before me wasnt all there so ill go through and retorque everything. def sounds like something minor tho. i was worried it was the engine but itll run and rev so idk. ill check those things out. the pipe on it is an fmf if that helps any.

alright well i need to plug the holes that are left from the guy deleting the oil injection and ill check what you guys said to check. what are the torque specs on the head bolts? and any air leak anywhere on the engine is a bad one? or just in the top end?

discovered something. my choke doesnt want to stay out on its own on either carb i have. my buddy has a blaster and his stays out. i dont know if this is nothing or if this is my whole problem. is the little gasket around the choke enough of an air leak for it to run away and run like crap? o and how big should the gap approx be under the throttle as you look through the carb?

I don't think a bad seal in the choke would pass enough air to make it rev up.The gap should be very small.Say about 1/8 or less.

well my gap on my throttle is at least an inch. we loosened the cable at the throttle and it is still about an inch gap. is this something that would make it rev up? definitely seems like a reason to me.

yes i thought i did at least. but maybe not. im at school and dont have the bike right now so ive got it at somebodies house back home and hes lookin at it. im going to have him look for air leaks because the more i read the more it seems to be an air leak but i do need to get that slide down because the gap is way too big.

Is it necesary that i have the filter on it when im trying to get it to run. i know i probably should but would not using the filter when im simply trying to get it to run cause any problems with getting it to run?

thank you wolf1. ill definitely try that. earlier i asked about jetting and i was told 260 to 280 with an fmf. well is that with a full fmf or just the silencer? sorry for all of the questions i am new to 2 stroke tyou guys have been very helpful

is silicone a good way to help seal a carb up? or is that an idea leading to a clogged carb?

so ifinally got to work on it today and i got the stator side taken apart down to the seal and the seal looks fine on the outside but oily gas came out when i took the main cover off of the side. can it be leaking and i just dont see it? when i took the cover off i definitely had oil/gas in the case but the seal seems fine visually. what do you guys think??

made a leakdown tester and the leak was so bad i couldnt hold any pressure at all. the air blowing out of the left side crank seal was so bad i felt it blowin on my leg. i dont have to put any pressure at all and it blows out of the seal like crazy. id say this is the culprit for my run away engine! new seals go in this weekend
