i have a 2000 blaster i traded for its been sitting for almost a year. kid said he drove it to where it was last parked. i got it and started it right up went to put it in gear and nothing. not a budge. clutch had tension and i could feel that all the gears are there. so i took a look at the friction discs they were fine so i put it back toghther. and after that it had no tension ( which i think is due to it needs adjustment) so i took the motor out because i want to look behind the clutch basket to make sure nothing is frozen up. i had to go get a tool to get the clutch basket off because the "clutch boss" would spin around even if the motor was in gear. but what size is the nut on the clutch basket? i was told its a 24mm but i just want to be sure. so what am i going to look for my problem? i am thinking the ball bearing is frozen up but let me know what you guys think! thanks.

There is no reason to take the motor out to fix a clutch problem. I would have done more investigating before pulling the motor. It's possible that the ball is welded. If it is, though, you're possibly going to have to split the cases. Easy way to tell. Tip the motor to the right side and see if the ball and rod slide out.

No need for a clutch holding tool to get it apart if you have an impact wrench. Put the fibers and steels back in and push on the fiber with 1 hand while you hit the nut with the impact wrench. 22mm or 7/8". You should use a clutch holding tool and a torque wrench to put it back together.

i wanted to pull the motor to do some work on the frame regardless so it was the perfect time. when i tip the motor over on its side nothing falls out as iv done it multiple times and would have heard and or seen something fall but nothing did. which leads me to think that the rod and ball are frozen up. but i will put on an impact with that size and try getting it off today.

a welded ball will not allow the clutch to disengage, when the ball welds itself into the rod, it won't push the pressure plate out far enuf to disengage

this will produce the symptoms described:
be sure the 2 dots are aligned on the pressure plate and basket..........

ok so heres the latest i took off the clutch basket off and i can stick a 3 inch bolt in there and i do feel something is in there. but is it the rod and ball or something else. whats my next step is what im looking for? thanks!! you guys are of great help

If the clutch ball is present, you could tip the quad up on its side and the ball should fall out, just be careful not to lose it.

i was able to get the rod out but no ball is there so should i just order a new rod and ball and should be good to go?
