hanging idle and idles high oiler removed help

If it passed the leak test ok, then check and do the following.

Make sure the carby slide is snapping back to bottom, a frayed or gummy cable will make the cable sluggish.

Check your float level, and then adjust the idle.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Float level should 20 to 21.5mm on a stock carby.

you want to turn the carb and hold it on a slight angle to measure the float height, like shown here......

it should just barely be touching the inner needle, not depressing it,

here's the float height's of the most popular carbs run on our blasters.......Credit to Awk08

26mm vm mikuni - 20-21.5 mm (stock carb)
28mm vm mikuni - 22mm
30mm mikuni - 23-25mm
32/34/36 tm mikuni - 18mm

30mm oko - 19-20MM.

keihin carbs -

alot of these float heights came from this website, if your mikuni or keihin carb isn't listed above, it will be listed here.......

It is possible to check the fuel level by attaching a length of clear plastic tubing to the drain nipple , lifting it up the side of the carby, and cracking the drain screw.

The fuel should show in the pipe to the level of the carb body above the float bowl gasket.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Idle adjusting.

Set float level, make sure that all jets are clean and fuel flows freely from the float bowl drain when the screw is cracked open.

Start with air screw 1.5 turns out.

Set idle screw so that it has some sort of idle. With TORS it is the big screw under seat on top of unit. With no TORS is is the brass screw midway down carb body.

Warm up motor and then set idle screw for a faster idle, 2000rpm+

Adjust air screw either way to get the fastest idle.

Adjust air screw a little at a time leaving 10 secs or until the motor responds.

Re adjust idle screw for desired idle .

I ordered tors eliminating kit so as soon as i get that in ill let u know if it changed also the slide that attaches into carb and comes out when i take carb top off is worn a bit its black n bare metal colorcould that cause high or hanging idle

those worn spots on the slide are common, shouldn't be a problem

So i installed tors and rempved all the old wires i measured float all is goodd there is one small brasss scrrw on backside of carb that i can't get out to replace and i still have a hanging idle-_-

there are a few "plugs" on all carbs, that may look like screws, but are actually plugs where they had to cross drill passageways they couldn't cast.

can you get us a pic of the "screw" ?
or find a google search pic and copy/paste it into your post here, and identify this ?

I can't figure out how to post pics but i can descrive it in detail so u know which one I'm talking about also where is the jet located for me to check? ... on its a mi. carb the screw I'm asking about is located on the same side as kick starter there are two ports directly on each side that i have plugged off and the brass small flathead looking screw is in between those two vents that are plugged off and directly abt a quarter inch below that screw is a small brown hose which i believe is overflow i hope that helps .again i don't know where jet is to check it can someone post a pic to help onthat

Take the bowl off the carb and inbetween the float is a brass nut with a hole in it.that is your main jet and will have a number stamped on it.they need to know that number!
