So I went back to an April post from user jlspaeky7, a how to on carb cleaning....the thing is I don't know where the needle clip is just so I'll know for future reference how I'm currently setup....or if I have to take notice of how many turns in/out the other things are besides the pilot (idle) jet.

I haven't touched any of that yet or taken the bottom four screws out because I had initially though TORS wasn't hooked up but it is....so the big spring that goes in the top of the carb and the throttle cable is still connected to the quad with the long needle (needle jet?) attached also..... :-/ I did notice the slide inside the top of the carb seems gunked up because it wasn't real smooth sliding up/down.

All I've done to this point is spray the outside of the carb with WD40, I assumed this would repel dirt and sh*t from sticking all over it. My buddy was saying he wasn't even sure if it matters and you could use WD40 to clean the carb or starter fluid, but I didn't chance it and picked up some carb cleaner. I'd like to get whatever numbers on the needles/jets written down so I'll know for future reference...also pulled the reed cage and will go out now with a mirror to see if I can see the piston.

I know I'm not good at articulating these thoughts/questions, but any thoughts (quickly) are welcome. I want to get the carb cleaned up good but don't want to screw but don't want to screw up by removing the main jet and then tighten too much or not enough, etc.

UPDATE: Well to tell you all the truth (for those that care), I think the piston looks great. I took a light/mirror and got a peak...I assume that is a connecting rod (or is that the crank? sad that I'm 24 and asking these questions) that goes up in the piston....whatever it is seals looked good, piston was light grey and looked to have a thin film of oil on it....didn't see any kind of scratches or anything that stood out on the piston/rings....

Looked brand new to be honest and the rings looked like aluminum or some sh*t....pretty much what the guy would have been telling me all along with regard to having the cylinder bored to match the new piston/rings he put in after swapping a 98 Blaster lower end because it had seized up on him...cylinder apparently wasn't damaged but he had the new piston/rings and threw it in for good measure.

Hey guys.....SWEET NEWS...

1) I cleaned my carb

2) Main jet said 240 on it.....

3) Choke that wouldn't remain out prior to carb cleaning now remains out, no more holding it while I kick it cold

Negatives:

1) Idle (pilot) seemed to be turned out 2 1/2.....I only have DG Pipe/Silencer, K&N Filter/Outerwear and possibly Boyesen reeds....guy said they were but I didn't take them off the cage and look for a name or anything.

2) DAMN PREMIX COMING OUT OVERFLOW TUBE IF I EVEN ATTEMPT TO TURN THE GAS PETCOCK TO ON/RESERVE.....I HATE MY LIFE! Put everything back the way I took it apart, made sure the floats were moving before putting it back on the Blaster. Can't ride now....could before despite smoke out of the exhaust (oily mix even on the grab bar, it seemed to have gotten worse which is why I pulled the carb to clean it in the first place....but tranny oil [belray gearsaver 75w] isn't getting any lower....)

if ur tranny oil was going low that means u probaly have a crank seal going out
the gas coming out the overflow means u need to adjust ur float just bend the tab abit

Damn, these posts of mine are long.

Thanks for the reply justtwistit....

RE; Crank Seal/Tranny oil....I realize this. That is why I had been keeping an eye on it, it does seem to smoke quite a bit, even while riding (seems to have gotten a bit worse, grab bar getting oily mix on it) but the tranny oil hasn't gotten any lower and I'm mixing 32:1 with Castrol 2T OR Klotz r50....so 8 OZ per 2 gallon of gas for either premix.

I figure it could be too rich but I suck when it comes to carb stuff. That is why I pulled the carb and cleaned it good, then while I did that I could get some numbers off the jets or whatever and also take a peek inside the cylinder without needing a torque wrench on the head of the cylinder of the jug itself (plus gaskets....).

I had the carb all apart but don't know what posters mean when they refer to needle clip position and all that....I went off a posters how-to on this site. I really didn't disturb the float AT ALL....I noticed the spring and tab or whatever if you take the four screws off the bottom of the carb and are looking at it that way. Before I put it back on I made sure the float was still moving freely....I wouldn't know whether to bend it (push down on bottom of float) or let the float drop holding the carb up and pull down a bit....X(

if ur exhaust smells like burning plastic that is also a indinctor if the crank seal is going bad

but on the tab i cannot think off hand maybe another member could help me out here
