Grease Zerk Size

Was cleaning up the 'new to me' bike and noticed one of the grease zerks was busted, the remaining chunk unscrewed fine - pulled the one beside it with an 8mm and headed to the parts store. They had 1/4" and they looked identical in size, shape, and thread but they wont screw in. The 8mm ones looked way too big around. Am I just being stupid or am I missing something?

You may just need to get 1/4" tap and chase the hole.

NO! the zerk fittings on the blaster are 6mm x 1.0 thread. Looks similar to a 1/4 x 20 but they're not the same.

Thanks civicdude, I'll pick up a pack tonight and get it in there. I've been digging years worth of oil grease out of ever inch of this bike and its screaming for new zerk and to be lube'd up.
