Well some background.
Last night, my room smelled like burnt... something. Sorta like cigarettes, not really. Sorta like sweet mary jane, but not really. So I didn't know what it was. I ignored it. After I got ready for bed, the smell seemed to have disappeared.

Well this morning I got up, thought I'd play some LittleBigPlanet. So I turned it on, started playing, and what do you know... the smell comes back. So I'm thinking... wth? About 20 minutes later, my TV goes black. I was like "Are you f*cking kidding me?" So I got up and smelled the vents on the back of my TV... smells like burning rubber.

This TV is a 32inch LCD that I bought about 2 years ago. It doesn't sound like much, but I saved money for a long time to get it. Back then, 32inches were like $650. So I paid total of about $700 for it. I sure would think it would last more than 2 years.

Here's to a nice fried TV! X(

Now I guess I have to tear it apart and look for something bad... any ideas what to look for?

i let you use my extra tv till u get a new on xkron. its a lil smaller and not flat screen but it will do the job

We have a tv down stairs but I have no where in my room to put it now that I wallmounted... >_<

Thanks though! :)

Could be a transformer too. If you know what to look for, where to get parts and how to solder you may be able to fix it. Or I saw a 32" LED tv at Target for $329 this week. LEDs are even thinner than the LCD tvs.

I know, I see all kinds of great buys... but sadly I don't have $329 =/

I'll be tearing it apart tomorrow and seeing what I can find. Prom is tonight or I would right now.

I totally understand. You really have nothing to lose by trying to fix it anyway. Good luck.

Thanks. And thanks for the help.

I've done research, it seems probable for either of these. So first I will check for any bad capacitors. And then if not, I'll order a replacement transformer.

Tore it apart today. Found the issue.

As you can see, the last image shows a piece of plastic that is melted pretty good.

After some googling, found a website that sells replacement parts.
Electronica USA: TK.4301H.101

They also offer board repairs for $80 flat fee. So I think I'm just going to do that because then I don't risk ruining the TV more. Calling them tomorrow about it. I:I
