my 05 blaster is stock other then a top end rebuild,i was wondering if i was to get a 13 tooth front sprocket would i have to change the rear?

Well it depends on what you want. The stock sprocket is a 13 tooth. Stock back should be a 40 tooth.

A good idea is to go for a 14t front and keep the 40t rear. This will give a touch more acceleration but a little less top end. Also important are your tire sizes.

Check out this gearing calculator which will help you understand whats going on

I thought bigger front sprocket gave MORE top speed?

First off, where in NY are ya from? I live southeast of Buffalo close to I-86. Wanted to ask you, given the difference between 13 and 14 tooth front sprocket, is there any major difference in acceleration? I'm not really one to go popping wheelies or anything like that.

Going from 14 to 13, you will notice quite a difference in get up and go.

It is not advisable using new sprockets with old chains, the old chain will tear them up due to different link to sprocket spacings.

It is always a good idea to replace both sprockets and fit a new chain.

Im rocking a 13/41 on my blaster and it rips through the rpms so quick you gotta really be on your game to keep up with it.And on trails im never in need of more torque its always there.

If you trail ride alot and dont do a lot of high speed cruises id definately recommend my gearing 13/41 but as stated above replace it all at one time unless you have a relatively new chain.

But as im sure you know the single most rewarding mod you can do is a pipe anything but a DG will provide a worlds difference to your bike.

Before going with the cost of all new chain and sprockets unless you need them now id find at minimum a good used fmf.The best fmf if you can find one is the SST its what i run and i dont care what the nay sayers say its a nice pipe.

Thanks for all the input. The Blaster came with an FMF system, TurbineCore 2 I think was the silencer...but the silencer is empty X(. So, I contacted FMF about it with questions, gonna drop some money for a new one. Unfortunately though, I'm thinking the front sprocket needs replacing and I don't know the age of the chain, so I've already got a new batch of parts coming. I:I Total cost was about $40 thru Rocky Mountain...I can't complain too much about that.
