I am almost finished assembling my new motor and I have a few questions. I need to put the head on it and am wondering if I need to spray some gasket sealer on the copper gasket? I also am unsure of what break in procedures to follow becouse realy only the bottom end is fresh. I have a stock cylinder with a good bore and piston that was running real good when taken apart to rebuild the bottom end. I am thinking that the motor still needs to complete a heat cycle for the bearings and seals is this correct? what would you suggest I do?

i use no sealer on any of the gaskets except the intakes, hi-temp copper permatex

and yes, leakdown test and 3-5 proper heat cycles
then re-torque the head and base bolts

I wouldn't use any spray or liquid gaskets

agreed. putting spry or liguid gaskets isnt needed. just make sure you do leak down test. 3 or 4 heat cycles. and then tighten the bolts agien and then 4 or 5 hours of easy ride. pz forum told me all that.

I disagree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use permatex copper gasket adhesive on any engine i reassemble with no issues to date.

Its just extra insurance.I prep the surfaces with brake clean or laquer thinner and then apply the permatex to the gasket both sides let it tack up and then install.

Never had a head gasket failure on my supercharged or nitrous injected mustangs or bikes and quads..

is it detrimental to the engine no but Better safe than sorry.

I also use sealer or gasket maker on most everything I rebuild so I used it anyway and I used the spray can of copper sealer for the head gasket it will not hurt anything.
