A co-worker got an '85 250R from his BIL for next to nothing, and went through the trouble of putting new rubber on it and getting it running after sitting for about 5 years. I think I can get it cheap as he's not really interested in keeping it.
Plastics are trash and it's generally ugly and beat but it runs and isn't missing any pieces. The only thing that I am concerned about is that it won't shift while its running. With the engine off it will go through the gears though. Are all the trans parts I might need still fairly readily available? Clutch isn't dragging.
Looks like just about everything is still out there for these. I'd likely do a complete tear-down and rebuild to near-factory specs (with a Wildcard top end of course...).
Should I buy it? Price is good. I've wanted one of these for since I was about 12!:D

and if it'll shift through the gears while its sitting engine off, i'd almost bet its a clutch problem

Yeah, we'll talk price a little more today at work.
I don't think the shifting issue is the clutch. My Blaster shifts fine without the clutch once it's moving. The trike won't. The shifter feels "funny" too. I doubt it's too serious though. It would get a complete tear-down anyway.
I saw you can buy complete rebuilt motors for these on Ebay for just over a grand, so that's a possibility too.
