Ok guys im new to the whole new moding quads. i just got a 03 blaster an blew it up in 30 mins after buying it. So now its getting bored 20 over. So he says its gonna take a month or 2 to get it done which is a very longtime an sucks. So in the mean time im not sure what mods i should start with. Its all stock right now an in mint condition. its gonna be used for alot of slower paced trail rides so i dont know where to start. Could any of you maybe possible head me in the right direction of what mods to do first. thanks I:I

port and polish it for low-mid range
mid range expansion chamber
re-jet it
get a cooler spark plug (trial plug)
heavier fly wheel
maybe change the gear ratio lower

it will be slow but it will have plenty of putting power
(easier to start off from a stop)

two months if you did one bolt a day!! It can take a shop a week maybe a little more sometimes to get you the cylinder back...but if you didn't have to wait for a shop to work on the cylinder you could rebuild the top end in an afternoon if you know what you were doing....a weekend if it was your first time (again, not counting the time it take to drop the stuff off at the machine shop).

For slow paced trail rides, blaster isn't the quad.

How did you blow it up?? It's stock and it blew up?? Does it ahve the oil block off??? Did you put premix in?

Yeah man blasters like to go fast. slow paced trails is not there Cup-O-Tea
As far as mods, it really pays to plan ahead. First decide what you want out of it in the long run, then start building towards it. If you want a big bore monster in the long run don't buy a pipe for a mild/stock blaster now. Generally the first mod your going to want to do is as stated before a pipe and reeds I would suggest V-force reeds and as far as the pipe goes It depends on what kind of bike your going to build. For Trail riding on a stock/lightly modded blaster I would Highly suggest a toomey b1. If you really want some power you cant beat a port and polish its the most bang for your buck you can get. There are several members on this site that do port and polish: Flotek, Kennedy_power, And Wildcard2. I had Flotek do mine several months ago it made a night and day difference. They are all very knowlledgable about 2-strokes. I would suggest you contact them and they should be able to help you pick the modds that best fit your ridding style. also If you have the old style blaster you will soon find out that the brakes are less than reliable so a hydrulic break conversion is always nice.
also on the old drum brake blasters one of the best modds is free. First take the front wheels off and put them on backwards it makes the front end a few inches wider and it will handle a lot better ( If you switch the wheels from side to side you can keep the tread going the right direction). If you have a newer blaster that already has hydrulic brakes this mod can still be done but it requires that you relocate the valve stem to the other side of the wheel or it will hit the caliper. Good luck

if you do happen to get a pipe though, make sure you read what range it helps in.
for example, you wouldnt buy a gold series fatty for trail riding.
(although my buddy did lol )

Blasters in trails, your right it isnt there cup-o-tea. But its not impossible. In trail you want alot of lowend, i reccomend starting with reeds and a pipe/silencer my suggestion is a shearers. Then when you gain your nuts back go with an agrresive trailport, a bigger carb, and a stroker, kennedy power is doing a sh*t load of bargain deals, go look at his stuff and tell that crackhead you aint waiting two months.

I wouldn't "suggest" buying the fatty for any type of riding and this is coming from a guy that has one. just look at Kennedy's dyno results the power curve on the FMF is so rough compared to all the other pipes. but if you're just looking for a little more power just for playing around there ok. I trail ride mine all the time and its not to bad, but it could be so much better.

If you blew it up in the first 30 mins i wouldnt worry about modding it I'd worry about learning how to drive it.If you cant even drive it then why would you want to mod it?

Yea i went an talk to the guy an he said the head cylinder head is getting worked on cause he had to ship it off. So im still at a damn stand still. Yes i do know how to ride quads an i do know a little about moding them i just wanted to be lead in the right way. But on the other hand i actully just bought another 2 stroker last night. I bought a 2003 banshee for 400 bucks. All i have to do is put everthing back on the frame.

And i do want to thank everybody for all the im put im gonna start doing sokme research on the pipes an reeds. The more i thought about it the trails we'll be riding r around lik 15mph - 40 mph. so sorry for when i said slow trail rides. im just so use to my 89 banshee i use to own.

well the reason y it blew up was the oil feed stopped working cause when i took the top an bottom end off the piston was dry as hell. so im gonna do the block off an mix my own so i dont go through this issue again.

ya, well we have bikes, fmf fatty's do pretty good on them.
but if i were buying a fatty for a blaster i would go toomey.

yea thats what i was thinking to. thats what i had on my banshee years ago an i love the sound. my friends hated it cause they said is to high pitched an to tingy.

Oh an by the way im 5'8" an 170 lbs. thats y ive been lookin into maybe puting on the 400ex or moding the yfz450 rear shock while the bikes down an tore apart.
