I:I whats up all new here....

Just bought a 2001 blaster, didnt pay much for it. For the year its in ok shape.

Previous owner fired it up for me and right away it idled 1k rpm's over what it should with the choke on, as it warmed up with the choke on the idle came down to about 1500k.

Turned the choke off and it shot up to 2k rpms. I told the guy, this thing has a bad seal, or a crankcase leak, he insisted it was something to do with the tors system. Well whatever I got it cheap.

As soon as I got it home I realized there was no clamp on the carb boot (reed side).Fixed, and fired it up, same thing... turned the idle down, and same thing, idling at 1.5-2k.
There is slack in throttle cable also...

So before I tear into this motor and do a leakdown test, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Welcome brutha... I:I

Need more info. Carb work? Jet mods? Stock carb/pipe, etc?
Any head/port work? Air/Idle screws where they are supposed to be?
Airbox lid on or off?? Stock filter??

How much "slack" in the cable?
When you blip the throttle R's fall back down slowly or fast?

Let's start there...
AND, a leak down is a, ummmmmm, MUST.

I will start with a leak down first just to be safe. Havent got into the carb yet and who knows what I will find lol, wrong people wrenching on stuff...

Was told the topend was recently freshed up, didnt say anything about porting, has a fmf pipe and silencer.

The spigot coming out of the engine case on the kickstart side just below the reed cage it justa crank breather right? Theres no hose on it....

Bitchin! on the quick repsone, nice to have a place to come and get some help

Going to home depot tommorow to get parts for the leak down tester

The leakdown is the best thing right now, will tell the tale, give piece of mind, etc, have at it, good stuff.

As for the spigot, yeah no hose needed, just a breather.

The FMF setup is a cool bonus, for sure. Your stocker VM26 carb should show a 240-250 MAIN jet depending on your region, just make sure. Even better move up to say a 250 minimum and pull the airbox lid off, leave it off, run a UNI filter and get MUCH more outta the semi stock/FMF setup, will rip!! Just be careful of heavy water/mud riding while lid is off, but most of us rock it that way, at most use outerwearz covers, etc.

Good luck bro, keep us posted!! I:I

Well found the leak, half the reed cage gasket was gone. dont know if it got sucked in or blew out :o

Piston looks good, replaced the gasket with gasket paper and 3bond, but the gasket paper I have is not as thick as the oem gasket. Get some thicker gasket paper or order a new gasket?

Fired it up with homemade gasket and runs great. Took it down the driveway and it had no problem pulling the front end up in 2nd. Rips alot more then I expected B)

And yeah you are right!! 250main jet, uni filter, open airbox, fmf pipe and silencer. This was all done before I got it.....

I traded my 88Yz 250 for this blaster, and am starting to feel better about it.

The blaster is pretty tight, carrier bearings, tie rods bearings are all tight. There is one upper a arm bushing thats loose.

I ran it for 3 hrs yesterday in the sand, over whoops, and climbing massive sand hills pushing it to its limits, didnt miss a beat or fall apart so its ready for the more mellow trail riding I do

The bad thing is the frame is bent, It doesent seem to make a difference while riding, I will get some pics up soon to get your guys opinion on what to do..... :D

Anyone in WI that could straighten this thing out?
