i do know how to use the search function, but i was actually looking for an opinion or two. first off, this is my first (running) blaster. i have noticed that first gear is ridiculously low, and short. all other gears are quite short as well. instead of fooling around with the trans, what front or rear sproket combo could i go to to make my bike a little bit more long legged? secondly, brake pads are probably in need of replacing. do i go to my local yamaha dealership for these? and finally, the holeshots on the rear are a bit worn. i plan on agressive trail riding, hare scrambles, and hopefully some xc. does anyone have a favorite type/size they run? thanks in advance for the help guys! my blaster is super fun! oh! btw, my holeshots are pretty short. i will edit my post with the size in a moment. i would like a tire a bit taller for clearance but dont know how atv tire sizes run... edit: 18x10-8 a breakdown of what the #'s means would be awesome. i have an idea, but dont want to make any assumptions.

well a blaster comes stock with 13tooth in the front and 40 in the rear. people put a 14 tooth in front to give a little more top end. i bought one and wasnt impressed though. so i took it off. as for the tires, 18 in 18 inches tall, the 10 is 10 inches wide and the 8 is for it goes on a 8 inch rim. blasters come stock with 8inch rims on the rear. as for better tires, i dont know what kind to run for your type cause i run in the desert all the time. and i know the smaller the tire size, the quicker you will run through your gears. so i would say go with a 20inch tall tire and a 14tooth sprocket.

cool. thx for the insight man. i have been searching the interwebz for some tires, just to get an idea, and they are ridiculously expensive! oh well, i wanted to buy some new ones because we are all going riding saturday, but nobody in north alabama carries atv tires. bummer...

^^^^Good recommendations. A 14t is a cheap upgrade for increased speed, as is a taller tire.

As far as tire types, you can't go wrong with a tire meant for offroad/cross country racing. Holeshot XC, Holeshot HD, Maxxis Razr GNCC, etc. The hard part is finding ones that fit 8in rims. You will find a better selection of bigger tires in 9in and 10in sizes. If you pick up Banshee rear hubs, your wheel selection gets better too. Easier to find used 9in, 4/110 wheels. (Blaster bolt pattern is 4/100) then you can buy someones used Banshee, Raptor, or YFZ wheels.

found some holeshot xcr's i like. about $85 apiece, but theyre six ply. i think i will order them this wknd. i will also check on the 14t front sprocket as well. thanks for the help everybody, my blaster is def better than my old klx dirtbike!
